This was one of the best hotels I stayed during my Central American trip in May 2011.

The location is perfect for exploring Granada and the surrounding areas. It's located so that you're away from the main restaurant/bar so it's nice and quiet but you are within 5 minutes walking distance from the town centre. The hotel is secure, at night the main gate is locked and there is a security guard patrolling.

I had a room looking over the courtyard which was perfect view. It was cleaned every morning without fail, but be warned the cleaning staff are very thorough and will put items away for you. I went into a major panic thinking I had been robbed but they had simply put certain items in cupboards for me.

The staff bend over backwards to help, ensuring your needs are met promptly. From minor details such as providing water for your room to assisting with excursions, via their tour operator partner. The communication prior to my stay was very thorough and I arrived confident that my needs would be met and they were. They even showed concern when I wasn't eating breakfast (I don't eat breakfast) and asked if there was anything wrong. I felt safe, cared for and relaxed.

I will most definitely go back to Granada as it's a fantastic and friendly city. When I do go back I will be staying at La Casona de los Estrada.

PS Make sure you have breakfast at Kathy's Waffle House opposite La Casona de los Estrada at least once during your stay. Waffles to die for!!!

Carlos and Berta (the staff) are great, you feel like you are staying in the house of a good friend. The location is great, just half block of the main historical buildings and less than 2 kms from Nicaragua Lake. La Casona is a colonial former house that was exquisitly renovated for a luxury hostal with few rooms, a lobby, a garden and a breakfast area. The have really nice furniture and decoration details making the place really cozy. They don´t have a parking lot in the hotel property but they have a place for cars 2 blocks away, so that was fine.
The rates are a higher than the rest of Nicaragua, but nothing crazy. Remember Granada is the main turistic attraction there.
The rooms were great, really clean, spacios and the beds are confortable. Definely a four star category room in such a little hotel. La Casona don´t have a restaurant (they only offer breakfast) but right in the same street you can find a pizza place and other restaurants.

The hotel staff, especially Bertha and Carlos, are warm and welcoming. We stayed for four nights in a very clean room with a king bed. The walk-in closet was spacious and our room overlooked a fountain which attracted lots of birds.
Breakfast was warm and nutritious and the staff was helpful in planning activities such a quiet boat /birdwatching tour of Lake Nicaragua/Los Isletas run by NicaraquaDulce.

Four of us were traveling from our home in Costa Rica overland to Somoto, Nicaragua and stopped overnight in Granada to break up the trip. Made a last minute reservation at La Casona de los Estrada via email at 10pm the night before our arrival. Got an immediate response within minutes from Carlos answering questions and providing pricing/availability information. Unbelievable service. When we arrived, everything was as described and actually exceeded expectation. Super friendly and helpful staff, good hi-speed wifi, super clean, well situated in downtown Granada and an delicious, made-to-order breakfast included. Cannot recommend this hotel more highly.
