The hotel staff, especially Bertha and Carlos, are warm and welcoming. We stayed for four nights in a very clean room with a king bed. The walk-in closet was spacious and our room overlooked a fountain which attracted lots of birds.
Breakfast was warm and nutritious and the staff was helpful in planning activities such a quiet boat /birdwatching tour of Lake Nicaragua/Los Isletas run by NicaraquaDulce.

Four of us were traveling from our home in Costa Rica overland to Somoto, Nicaragua and stopped overnight in Granada to break up the trip. Made a last minute reservation at La Casona de los Estrada via email at 10pm the night before our arrival. Got an immediate response within minutes from Carlos answering questions and providing pricing/availability information. Unbelievable service. When we arrived, everything was as described and actually exceeded expectation. Super friendly and helpful staff, good hi-speed wifi, super clean, well situated in downtown Granada and an delicious, made-to-order breakfast included. Cannot recommend this hotel more highly.

What can I say. My partner and I traveled Central America for a month, staying in various 2-3 star accommodations in Guatemala, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. What I can tell you about La Casona de los Estrada is that the the 5-6 rooms they have are comfortable, quaint, clean and spacious. For the money (I think we paid around US $50/night), you can't do better. Location is 2 blocks from the central square and all the main attractions in Grenada. Best of all, the manager there (Carlos) is quite a character. Funny, kind and caring man who helped us with everything from where to eat to finding accommodations at our next destination. Breakfast at the hotel was fantastic with a gorgeous indoor courtyard and garden with hummingbirds and the like. Highly recommend. Would stay here again for sure.

Just a heads up to you folks who stay at Casona because of the wonderful staff.
I have been staying at the Casona for about 6 years now at least twice a year. It has always been my FAVORITE hotel in Granada. I live in Costa Rica and I have recommended the Casona to ALL my friends who travel there for their three day visa renewal trips.
Had I written this review the last time I stayed there it would have been "glowing" because Carlos, Jaimie, and Rosa had always made us feel safe, at home, and welcome. They always made our visits feel like we were visiting family!
I stayed there this week December 2009) and learned that the wonderful Jaimie, (pronounced Hymie) is no longer working there and neither is the precious Rosa.
Carlos is the only one remaining of the original crew that we have all come to know and love. He is still the same precious man he always was. He has a new baby by the way!!
Had I arrived to find him gone too I would have immediately moved to another hotel.
Rosa, Jaimie, and Carlos made the Casona what it was.
Although the rooms are still clean, the breakfast is still good, and the building is still beautiful, it will never be quite the same without the magical trio.
