I will start this review by saying that my husband "The Picky-Cranky traveler". He hates the process of travel and it takes days to get in the groove of the vacation. That was not the case at Grand Cabana. He instantly fell in love with the beach, peaceful atmosphere and the beautiful grounds and pools.
We both truly enjoyed the food and the ambience. Our room was clean and comfortable (we had a CABANA THAI HOUSE), and management was very responsive with the few requests that we had (extra pillows, etc.)
We will go back in 09 as another favorite escape. (Arlene )

Having stayed in Thailand before and been so impressed with the high standard of hotels at reasonable prices the Grand Cabana was a real disapointment. The rooms had no sign of luxury (not even hot water) and the furniture could have been purchased from a junk shop. Signs went up while we were there to advice us not to turn the airconditioning below 24c as it may turn to ice! The breakfasts were really awful, cold fried eggs! The gardens were very well maintained however the plastic chairs, tables and loungers needed a really good clean, they were filthy. Had we not pre paid and been in a very busy season when all the hotels were packed we would have moved on. We loved Koh Chang as an island and would definately go back just not to this hotel. Hope you read this before you book!

The Grand Cabana offers some clean, spacious rooms on well kept grounds very close to a nice beach. The hotel is located on Khlong Phrao beach - certainly not the best beach in Thailand but clean, scenic and relaxing none the less. The area is pretty quiet and family oriented with a few bars and restaraunts along the beach that are farily low key.

Our first couple of nights in Ko Chang we stayed at the Magic Rersot which is next store to the Grand Cabana. Although the grounds were nice and some of the bungalows are right next to the beach, the bungalows were pretty grimey and bare. As blankets they basically give you a couple of large towels and our room was constantly full of mosquitos. We checked out a night early and moved to the Grand Cabana which was slightly more expensive but a lot nicer. Tried to get a refund for the last night at Magic but they did not accomodate.

The Grand Cabana is by far the worse hotel we have ever visited anywhere in Thailand. We had one of only two rooms with seaview and had booked to stay for six nights. There was no hot water tap in the bathroom wash basin, only cold water. When we complained they said that the whole hotel was the same without hot water. No telephone in room and old tatty furniture. Worse of all was when we went to go to bed and pulled open the bed linen; it was filthy, disgusting. The sheets were stained with horrible marks. We stayed the night but early hours of the morning the mains power supply failed in most of the resort but whereas other hotels had back-up generators the Cabana's didn't work and so there was no hot breakfast or water or lights. We packed our cases and checked out but, the Cabana had the cheek to charge us 30% penalty for cancelling the next five nights even though they failed in their obligation to provide a suitable standard, clean hotel room. It was worth the penalty to get out of the place. We then went to the wonderful KC Grande Resort for the remaining five nights.
