“Rishikesh at its timeless best”

Rishikesh has many ashrams and hotels. For those who are open to experiencing the timeless nature of Rishikesh then Parmarth Niketan is a great option. This place is not at all for those who want service and pampering. Most of the people prefer the river view rooms but my favourite rooms are the new rooms of Yamuna block which look into the inner courtyard of the ashram. The Ashram offers simple vegetarian Indian food but for those who are looking for more exciting palate the bazaar outside has many little restaurants with international options. I stayed at the ashram twice and felt amazing peace and serenity. The Ganga Arti(prayer), which the ashram organizes daily on the banks of the great river, transports you to a real calm inner space. The ashram also offer good yoga classes and is famous for hosting the international yoga conference every year. Stay her if you want a real Rishikesh exprerience.

“Complete Rishikesh experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

This place is not a hotel in conservative sense. It stands for a real experience of the Rishikesh life. If we go there with the mindset of being served and pampered then we need to look for another place. Only those of us who come with an open mind to experience the essence of Rishikesh will feel comfortable here. It is a functioning ashram with a dynamic guru, has a gurukul(traditional school) for teaching the sriptures to young rishikumars(young boys who are willing to spend their lives serving the Hindu religious traditions). The ashram rooms are decently furnished and the charges are very low. Good, wholesome Indian vegetarian food is also available, But those who want more exciting food can eat right outside the ashram in the bazaar where there are many restaurants. The ashram offers a daily yoga practice as well. The real highlight of the ashram is the Ganga arti(prayer) offered every evening by the rishikumars on the banks of river Ganga. Its magical and its impact can only be experienced and not described. The ganga view rooms are most sought after but I like the new rooms in the Yamuna wing of the Ashram. Go with an open mind and enjoy the stay. The international yoga festival which gets organized in this ashram every year is very well known in the yoga circuits internationally.

“Good location Ashram”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2011

Reading previous reviews, no need for me to clarify the ashram/hotel difference. Outside the gates it's bustling and is part if a vibrant, local, vocal community of humanity and animals. Inside more chilled, nice gardens, food was ok, yoga classes terrific, aarti awesome. People are friendly, but you really have to go searching for information on where things are and at what time. My suggestion from personal experience is avoid the Ganges view room if you are looking for a quiet meditative spot (better head to an ashram away from the town). If you're up for the awesome views, then it's great. Felt a bit like a youth hostel, and probably people don't know about the silence periods within the ashram. Budget-wise you can get better value elsewhere in more comfortable rooms very close. I probably wouldn't go back to this ashram, however I do recommend consider staying for a night or two and make your own mind up, depends on the experience you're looking for.

“will go 3rd time there in december..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2011

I have been twice to Parmarth Niketan and will go 3rd time there in December. Its a nice place with a good location in front of Ganges river..although no room is river facing..its a minute walk to Ganges. One should understand that this is not a Hotel but a Ashram..though they have maintained it nicely..few new blocks n few old. They have double rooms as well as family rooms. We have 5 days meditation retreat in December so v stay there everytime..one can guess the place is comfortable and suitable for meditation and yoga sessions.
