“Lovely House, Nice Rooms, Good Hosts and Good Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 June 2010

I and my wife stayed at this Inn for one night on vacation. The room was large, immaculately clean, with lovely antique furnishings, including some outstanding quilts. The Inn is on 7 acres of grounds including lots of trees and a hayfield next door. The hosts were gracious and the breakfast (waffles, among other things) tasty and very filling. Our only regret was that we arrived late and could not enjoy the grounds on the evening of our arrival.

Some reviews have mentioned highway noise - it was there if you listened for it, but it didn't bother us. I suggest that you be sure to follow the directions to get to the Inn, and look carefully for the signs.

“A touch of home abroad”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2009

Both Bob and Betty went out of their way to make our short trip to The Shenandoah Valley unforgettable. A great welcome even though we were terribly late arriving. The room was clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was smashing, so different to what we normally have here in England, it's changed out diet!, The B&B itself is very close to many attractions not only within the valley, but also close to the Skyline Drive with it's sweeping vistas. It's such a shame that we didn't have longer there. A truly enjoyable stay! 4,000 miles away but we felt as if we were "just down the road" from home.

“Shenandoah Valley Pet Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2009

To start a vaction with two dogs you can already consider yourself at a disadvantage. Right off the bat we were given a; come one come all, bring the dogs, and let us be your place to see while you discover all that Mt.Jackson and surrounding communities have to offer, kind of welcome....And that was just on the phone. We have a screwy work schedule so at the last minute we had to make a change to our reservation and Betty was so accomodating. Upon arrival Betty showed us our five acre field for the dogs to run without a leash and just be dogs. What an amazing down home feeling you get here. Our cottage, The Silk Purse, was so homey and comfortable. We were able to enjoy a glass of wine form our wine trail adventure (North Mountain Vineyard)<------must see, at a little table just outside the front door of our cottage, surrounded by the romantic backdrop of a Shenandoah Autmnscape. The rooms were clean and decorated to give you a welcome home kind of feeling. Proximity to local fare worthy of mention is so close which gives this property a ten in the location department. As for the breakfast at this B and B, nothing less than fantastic. Homemade coffee cake, served with local berries and a bottomless cup of the best tasting doctored Folgers ( Betty smiles when she tells you what your drinking if you ask). The main course consisted of Belgian waffles and Homemade Stuffed French Toast. Homemade syrup accompanied the waffles and French Toast. Bob and Betty, your hosts will provide you with more than enough guidance for food, fun and frolicking. Two Paws and two thumbs up for the Widow Kips Country Inn, we can not wait to fetch ourselves back.

“Mom, Dad, we're home!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2009

We have stayed at The Widow Kip's Country Inn in Mt. Jackson, VA for the past 7 years. It is situated in the beautiful and quaint Shenandoah Valley village of Mt. Jackson. The accomodations are excellent and the hosts, Bob and Betty Luse are the most accomodating, friendly and flexible hosts my wife and I have dealt with.
The rooms are well maintained and cozy. The atmosphere of the Valley region is reflected in all aspects of the Inn. Bob and Betty are very familiar with the attractions, restaurants and events in the area and are always willing to assist in making your stay pleasurable and relaxing. Their hospitality is above reproach. I recommend The Widow Kip's to all my friends and co-workers when asked about staying in the Valley. You can't go wrong staying with Bob and Betty! Always a great time!

“Terribly Old and Not Recommended”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 July 2009

My husband and I decided last minute to go up to Bryce Resort for fireworks on July 3rd and although we live only a couple hours away we decided to stay at the inn last minute. We wondered why it was the only place with rooms still available last minue, and we quickly found out once we arrived. Our room was in terrible condition. Immediately after we arrived my husband went to change into some pants, and someone nearly walked right into our room while he was changing. And yes, the door was closed and locked. The problem was the hinge fell right off as the person opened the door to what he thought was his room. Luckily, there was also a deadbolt and we used it the rest of the time we were there.

The carpet was in terrible shape and there was cat hair in the inn, although the website makes it sound like their aren't any pets permited inside. The bed was probably the worst I've slept in (or shall I say - tried to sleep in) in years. It is right under a freeway that is loud also.

The only thing good I can say about it would be the breakfast, but as we were finishing up eating it, the inn keeper abruptly came in and told us and two of the other guests that we HAD to get up. She had another set of people coming in for breakfast. She could have been much more diplomatic about it.

I've traveled quite a bit over the past ten years and from what I can recall this is the only time I've felt that I had to post a review. I just want to make sure other people know what they are getting when they stay in the inn.

The couple that wrote this review were very
unfair. First of all, they were late coming in
for breakfast. We have two seatings 8:30 a.m.
and 9:30 a.m. Most of the guests at the table were almost finished with their breakfasts, when they arrived at the table. We had to reset for the 9:30 a.m. seating, they had asked for more coffee, which they were given, and we asked them if they would like to go into the common room to finish their coffee, and continue visiting with the other guests. There are always two sides to every story, we always want to pamper our guests, that is why so many guests are repeats.
