At first, I was skeptical especially after reading all of these reviews. I was in Midlo visiting my girlfriend, and this was the cheapest place to stay. I got in around 6 in the morning and was greeted by a beautiful lobby and Mike at the front counter who took my card promptly and was very friendly. He told me I could come back at noon and they'd have a room ready for me and surely enough, they did.
The room was beautiful; lots of space, very clean and well-maintained, nice TV, working fridge and microwave, all the standard amenities I needed. The only things that were really wrong I suppose were a few minute things in the bathroom; the lack of toilet paper on the roll upon arrival (but there was a full backup roll right behind it), the small crack in the marble on the sink, a small grayish stain on the floor of the shower, and the fact that the bathroom was kind of a steam trap and left condensation on everything unless you left the door open. Also, the mattress cover tended to come off rather easily, but we only had that problem once. Like I said, little itty bitty things that didn't really make any difference to me and didn't have a huge impact on my stay.
The location is wonderful, right on Hull Street and minutes from all kinds of restaurants, stores, a movie theater and only a half hour from Richmond.
The breakfast was great. Belgian waffles, cereal, toast and bagels, juice, milk and coffee. Nothing extravagant, but hey, it's free and more than enough to get you off your feet and into the day without an empty stomach. The only small problem with it was it ran from 6-9, so if you sleep in you're gonna miss it. There's no room service but they have numbers for Domino's and other local places that deliver more than just pizza, so good food is just a phone call away. There's also Hardee's, Wendy's and Taco Bell within walking distance.
Another thing I liked was the TV in the room... I'm kind of a nerd and brought my Wii with me in hopes that I could plug it in and play games with my girlfriend while we weren't out and about, and low and behold the TV had no input locks and my game system worked wonderfully on it. This is pretty great if you're bringing kids along since this location doesn't have a pool or a game room or anything. Also, the free Wi-Fi was blazing fast and gave me no problems at for simple browsing such as Facebook or ordering a pizza.
I didn't have housekeeping all weekend since I didn't really need it and left my Do Not Disturb tag on my door during my entire stay, but they called on the first day to see if I needed anything for my room, which was really nice of them and really shows that they care about their customers.
Checking out was a breeze as well, even when I had to check out a night early. I was provided with a detailed bill with my rewards points and everything on it, the man at the front desk (Mike) went over it with me in detail and made sure any questions I had were answered, and bid me safe travels back to NY as I left.
Overall, everything was great. This isn't a 5-star place, but for what you pay for, you get some truly awesome service and everything you need. I was pleasantly impressed and very pleased with this Super 8.
