“NOOOO WAYSIDE INN”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2011

Just came back from dinner at the Wayside. Our meal was terrible. My wife had the crabcakes with hair. I had the tough and dry prime rib. Even the auus couldn't help this piece of meat. Green beans were soft and weatherd. Showed the waitress the hair and was not charged for that meal but I couldn't eat my meal after the hair thing. I'm sick to my stomach and still was charged for my meal. What a joke. This place has fallen by the Wayside.

“Utterly Disappointing Dinning Experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2010

This Inn has been a favorite of ours for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners...until now. The buffet was unappetizing and lacked variety. The wait staff, while friendly, was unprofessional. The bill was enormous!! New York City pricing in the Shenandoah Valley. The management/owner, was totally lacking in true customer service skills. I must, sadly, urge folks not to visit this historic establishment. The new owners do not seem up to the task of offering a fine dinning experience. We are still in shock over the bill for this utterly disappointing Christmas dinner. Now we understand why the parking lot was virtually empty.

Hello, We are most surprised at your comments about our Christmas Dinner Buffet. We had so many items: Garden Salad, Pasta Salad, Peanut Soup, Pumpkin Soup, Prime Rib, Sliced Ham, Carved Pork,Tilapia, Chicken, Shrimp Cocktail, Green Beans, Macaroni and Cheese, Rice, Corn Pudding, Roasted Red Skin Potatoes,Rolls and Butter, and A table of Desserts. In addition to the basic food selection all the appropriate condiments were included. It is hard to understand what you might have expected to eat for this traditional dinner. We served the basic "traditional" items on our buffet. A prime rib dinner usually is $25.00. This was only one item from our list. You had the advantage of unlimited visits to the buffet at an inclusive cost.
You had the opportunity to learn the cost in a advance when you made your reservation or you could have inquired upon arrival. The cost was not above average for the unlimited selection.

“Charming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2010

Romantic, unassuming B&B -- excellent value, friendly staff. Stayed Friday - Sunday. Room was more than adequate - comfortable 4-poster,carpeted, sitting area, private bath. Inn great for a getaway -- close to DC but not too close. Close to North Mountain winery, Cedar Creek (and other) Civil War battlefields, historic Stephens City, and Winchester. Irish Isle Pub down the street had live music Friday (get there early in the evening) and fabulous chicken (pot) pie. Note: Middletown is sleepy and winds down a bit early.

“We will go back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2010

New owners so you should disregard old reviews 08 and back. If you're looking for historic, quaint, charming, and antiques everywhere, then this is for you. If you like friendly staff and attentiveness this is the place. We had a cozy room, ok so the bathroom was not updated but it had the necessities and so what, we had antique furnishings and we didn't plan on moving there just staying for a few days. The mattress was good and the a/c kept the room cool. The food was fantastic..loved the homemade tomato and basil soup and roasted chicken. If, on the other hand, you are a nitpicker and want sleek and cold and modern and prepackaged food, then do the wonderful owner and staff a favor and go elsewhere. We are going back and next time will go the Wayside Theater for a play...well within walking distance.

“Not worth it”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 May 2010

Forget what you read. Yes, the inn is historic. That does not, however, make up for circa 1960s fixtures (including sunken and dirty tiles) in the teeny bathroom, dirty carpet and couch, no hairdryer, the most miniscule toiletries I've ever seen, a bar where the bartenders are out waiting tables in the dining room and give you no service, ice you have to request.

The owner wonders why she's losing business? Maybe updating the inn and cleaning it (including the cobwebs in the pub) might help.

We left early, skipping a pre-arranged dinner because it was so depressing.
