“It Is What You Think”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 June 2010

The Super 8 is the cheapest hotel in Max Meadows/Ft. Chiswell, and it looks it. This is an older property, which looks a little rundown. The front desk clerk was prompt and professional and the room seemed pretty clean, if not threadbare. Get a room on the 2nd floor, because the floorboards creaked and I'd hate to hear that all night. The mattresses are firm and there are plenty of pillows. The bathroom plumbing is passable. The AC unit was very loud on the highest setting. In all, it seemed a good place to crash for the night or rest after a jaunt through the nearby state park. Also, if you take a left turn out of the parking lot, there's a great little grocery store about a mile down. You will probably have to drive to Wytheville for a sit down meal.

Also, skip the outlet mall. Only four stores remain open, and they are extremely expensive and useless.

“Worst hotel ever”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2009

My girlfriend and I were traveling to N.C. after a Thursday night VT game and stopped here to sleep for the night. As soon as we walked in, there were bugs in the floor by the door and in the bathroom. Everything was out of date and poorly lit. We were so tired we tried to make it work to get some much needed sleep. However, being close to the loud truck stop coupled with the rock hard bed we soon realized sleep wasn't going to be easy. We layed all the blankets ontop of one another to soften the bed and maybe got 4 hours of sleep between the two of us. This was by far the worst hotel we have ever stayed in and will probably steer clear of Super 8's as a whole.

“Nice Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2008

Stayed at this motel while in the area visiting the New River State Park. Called several days before to inquire about rates etc.; nice, professional man answered my questions and said reservations were not necessary since they were not busy. Arrived at motel, front desk person friendly and helpful, provided the type of room we requested. Motel not very busy, located in a safe, convenient area, nice parking lot, easy access to I81, gas, food. Next door is a large truck facility and the entire area around the interstate exit/entrance is fairly congested with truck traffic but the room was quiet. Large room, mostly clean, decent TV, coffee machine, hair dryer, small table & 2 chairs, vanity sink outside bathroom. Carpet didn't seem extremely clean and room had slight odor on initial entry (this was a non smoking room) but tolerable. Super 8 offers a continental breakfast at 6am of small muffins, bagels, cream cheese, cereal, oatmeal, coffee, juice, etc. It's not Cracker Barrel but a nice touch for a quick start to the morning. At the AAA rate of $55, you get your money's worth.

“Pleasant enough”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 May 2007

I stopped for the night here entirely on impulse as I had driven a little more than halfway to my 2100 mile trip to Alabama. I was happy
that the rooms had outside entrances and it afforded a pleasant mountain view, sitting well up above the interstate. It was also right next to a Flying J truck stop which meant I could hear trucks idling all night, not that it was a problem, but some folks may prefer more quiet. It also turned out to be one of the more expensive
hotels because of its location at the crossroads of I-81 and I-77. The cheap mattress wasn't terribly comfortable, but the room was very clean and the staff were pleasant and welcoming. The continental
breakfast turned out to be a Sara Lee-type danish and a cup of coffee
from their Mr. Coffee, which didn't interest me. I may stop at a different place next time I make the trip to try to save an extra 15-20% on the room.

  • Liked — nice mountain view
  • Disliked — more expensive, cheap mattress
