“Third time not a charm”

Third visut here and without fail problems arise. They dont award ypur discounts until you are present and inform tgrm at time of registratoon i am aaa member. The front staff and management all need to take courses in customer service. The latina manager on duty yesterday afternoon was thr worst. I sat in thr lobby for at least a half hour and received suspicious looks from all. As a paying guest and african-american, i felt insulted. Finally, ordered a burger for $10 and it wad presented to me charcoal. Really??? Wont be patronizing the kirkley anymore.

I'm the Owner of the Kirkley Hotel,

We appreciate this review very much. While we have a lot of room to improve I believe this review represents an acknowledgement of the kind of hotel we are trying very hard to present. The most important thing for us is that we hear from all guests so that we can improve. Hopefully if anyone ever has an issue with their stay they will communicate their concerns to us while they are here so that we have a chance to make things right. We're going to work very hard to make this review the norm.

“Nice plac NOISY ALL NIGHT!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

Recently renovated rooms still smelled new. My two only complaints: 1) no rear entry to the hotel. There was a conference which took up all the parking in the front. Had to ppark around back, and there was no allowable entry in the back. Had to take a very scary walk through several groups of thuggish looking people to enter the front. 2) SOOO NOISY. Doors slamming all night long. Could hear neighbors peeing in toilet. Could hear neighbors talking and watching a tv preacher, could hear every door slam... heard the housekeeping lady talking as she made her way all the way down the 4th floor. Needless to say, I didn't sleep well.

Nice hotel, but take earpplugs.

I'm The Owner of the Kirkley Hotel,

I'm sorry for the confusion this guest had with respect to our back entry. We do in fact have a back entry way. Each guest that checks information on gaining access to that door. It is locked for security reasons.

We would like to make things right with this client and ask that they please call our General Manager to discuss their concerns with him.

“Who wants to wake up at 5 AM?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

I have stayed at this hotel a few times when other hotels in the area were booked. I believe it was the Sheraton before it was purchased under private ownership. The general impression of the lobby is good and they have a bar area off the lobby where you can drink and dance if that is your thing. They are supposed to be in the process of renovating the rooms - they are ok.

I stayed here again in June 2011 - a bit late writing a review but the experience still could not have been more unpleasant. I was in town visiting my elderly family member undergoing cancer treatments. I did not get to the room until after I had spent the day and evening with them. I was exhausted and happy to get to a room and relax and have a good sleep.

There were several large groups staying at the hotel. There were a lot of people standing around at the front of the hotel when I checked in and it was clear the hotel was busy. Little did I know that these groups would be ridiculously early risers and traveling with coolers.

I woke to this loud crash clank noise and thought what is that - I rolled over and looked at the clock on the bed 5 AM!!! I was just settling back into sleep when once again clank clank clank. After that it was constant! There was no way I could go back to sleep as every person in the group felt it was perfectly all right to fill their coolers with the ice machine that was sitting out in the middle of the hall. I have never stayed in a hotel where the ice machine was in the middle of the hall - had not even looked in that direction as 99% of all hotels have the sense to have an ice machine in an alcove. How rude could these guests be - I mean do you want to wake up at 5 to hear ice clattering away over and over and over again. Can't they realize it is very noisy? Shame on the hotel for not asking a guest if this would bother them or for having the ice machine in the middle of the hall in the first place.

I got dressed and wen to the front desk to ask if they could turn off the ice machine or offer ice to the group from the bar - anything to stop these rude people from waking up other guests. Then the management came and said I had to change rooms. This was at 6:45 in the morning. Completely impossible to get back to sleep! Completely rude and incompetent!
I was exhausted for the rest of the day and my 4 hour drive home was torture due to the lack of sleep I received. I called my family and told them if I had a wreck driving home to make sure they found the Kirkley Hotel and staff responsible.

I will never ever ever stay in such a rude, incompetent, and poorly designed facility again. Months later this experience still leaves a very clear impression in my mind of how badly they handled this. Thank you for making a sad and stressful time even worse. Shame on your facility.

Room Tip: Avoid the ice machines - ask if there is a big group staying here - avoid if big groups are here _ B...

I am the Owner of the Kirkley Hotel,

I'm very sorry for the experience this guest had at our hotel. As someone with a deeply vested interest in the outcome, it causes me great pain and embarrassment. We have in fact completely renovated the hotel, and for clarification the hotel was never part of the Sheraton chain. We have no way of contacting this guest, but would very much appreciate receiving direct communication so that we can apologize and perhaps do something to make it up to them. I believe recent reviews by other guests who have stayed since this guest departed make clear the improvements we've made to service and facilities. We assure you that we do care, are working hard every day to make a great hotel, and absolutely intend to stand behind our product.

“Wonderful hotel for the price!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

I stayed here for the first time while attending an intensive at Liberty University. I can not say enough wonderful things about my visit! I have stayed at a lot of hotels across the United States and honestly don't know that I've ever stayed in a nicer hotel within the same price range as the Kirkley. I have stayed at fancier, more expensive hotels, but for $70 a night I had a down comforter and extra pillows, marble counter tops in the bathroom, a flat screen t.v., a refrigerator and microwave, and a wonderful breakfast each morning in the hospital restaurant! I also used the fitness center which was small, but very well laid out with up-to-date equipment. The staff were all very helpful. I wish I remembered names, but honestly they were all wonderful! For the price I feel Kirkley is a rare gem, indeed!
