“Once for fun, Twice for Engagement, Maybe a 3rd for Marriage”

I could write 2,632 words about how tremendous Prospect Hill is. My then girl friend and I visited once and loved it. Old world history preserved in every room or house with a delicious breakfast brought to your room at your specified time. And for an extra $50 per person a four course meal in the dining room with a half hour wine reception before that is easily worth the cost. The Innkeeper, Bill even says a nice prayer before the dinner for all guests. Don't worry. You'd have to be an uptight miserable person to be offended by the pleasant, concise, and gracious prayer.

On a recent Bed & Breakfast and vineyard tour of Virginia we went back and I proposed to her here. Without going into detail about the extravagance of surprises I had for her, it was grand and wonderful but wouldn't have been the same unless it was at Prosepct Hill. Good livin'.

“This isn't just an inn, but a fantastic restaurant!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2011

We have never spent the night at Prospect Hill, but have eaten in the restaurant about 10 times. It is a fantastic experience and so much more than a fabulous meal. The evening begins with a complementary wine reception. You can then take your drink and wander the lush grounds, down to the wine cellar where there's a cracking fire in the winter months or just into the beautifully appointed living room. Dinner is announced by a bell and once everyone is seated the innkeeper reads the evening's menu and says a blessing for the meal. They will take any dietary restrictions into account, but aside from that, the 5 course meal in in their hands and in 8 years, I've never been disappointed. This is a lovely place for special occasion meals and the prices for both the meal and the extensive wine list are very reasonable- you will never leave hungry.

“Wonderful Expereince”

This was our second time at Propsect Hill, and we we delighted all over again. It is a magnificent property, and the staff is unfailingly welcoming. We stayed upstairs in the overseer's cottage and highly recommend its cozy, istoric-feel. My allergy-prone wife attests that it was spotlessly clean. The dinner is excellent, and we particularly recommend it because not a lot of other good dinner choices are available without substantial driving. (The chef was kind enough to share her recipe for her wonderful apple-curry soup.)

“The perfect compliment to my Son's Law School graduation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2011

I spent three days at The Plantation Inn on the weekend my son graduated from UVA Law School, May 19-22nd. I was totally happy with everything Bill and his staff did to make my stay perfect. At a time when Motels like Comfort Inn charged $210 a night, up from a normal of $99.00, it was very refreshing to find a quality B&B for less. In addition, I did not have to pay for all three nights "in advance and non-refundable" like every other inferior motel did.

I definantly will book again next May for the graduation of my son's special girlfriend, and will recommend The Plantation Inn to anyone who asks about B&B's in the Charlottesville area.

“Cozy and Rustic B&B off the beaten path...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2010

I traveled to the Prospect Hill Plantation the weekend of 10/15 and despite having serious reservations (due to other negative Trip Advisor reviews) was pleasantly surprised. Upon arrival, I did notice the grounds had more of a rustic feel as opposed to manicured lawns and shrubs and the lawns were strewn with fallen leaves....fine by me as the entire inn has an antique, 18th century feel, though I could see that as off-putting for some.

Our room (Uncle Guy's Downstairs) was cozy and nice upon arrival, though I would absolutely NOT recommend reserving this room. I was told upon booking that "You can't even tell anyone is upstairs...it feels like a 1 story cabin". I trusted the innkeeper's word and was truly disappointed. The first evening we could hear every move the upstairs occupants made through the creaking floor-boards, not to mention their conversation was clearly audible. The second night was even worse as I awoke to loud snoring from upstairs. For $295, I felt completely duped and mislead by the innkeeper about the true sleeping condition of my room. The positive is that this was the only true negative of our stay.

The owner, Mr. Sheehan, was very cordial and reserved an excellent table for my fiancee and I at dinner Friday night ($50/person + gratuity) which on that evening was superbly prepared lamb, excellent sausage and fennel lentil soup, a fresh mixed green salad and a desert that was unfortunately, wal-mart quality. Aside from the dessert, I would have absolutely zero complaints about dinner and would happily pay for their dinner again.

Some other travelers mentioned the presence of bugs, but in all honesty given the nature of the cabins and their construction in the 18th century, there are bound to be some bugs joining you inside as the weather cools. In our 48 hours, I killed in the neighborhood of 5 beetle type insects and 2 flies. If you go in expecting a modern hotel, the bugs will likely surprise you, though I was prepared and not upset by their presence. The property and cabin coziness (which is why the bugs are present) more than outweigh the insect presence.
