“Stay last May”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 March 2011

It's taken me way too long to write this but here goes anyway.

May 2010 & on a fairly long trip taking in Chicago, Baltimore, West Virginia & Tennessee our one night stay here was one of the highlights of one of our best holidays.

Our host met us with a very warm welcome, showed us to a very clean comfortable room & left us alone to settle in for the night.

We relaxed by taking a fairly short hike up into the hills where we sat & just looked out into the distance. It was a beautiful view where we sat & talked until the sun began to go down.

Ventured back to our room & watched the fireflies dancing in the night sky until we we ready to sleep.

After a fantastic nights sleep & lovely shower we had a fantastic omelette for breakfast.

After a short introduction to Handling & behavious, we took a guided walk with a couple of Llamas.

Jonas & Chaos were a joy to experience a definitely added a new dimension to this lovely & peaceful.

“Great stay, beautiful location”

Very tranquil and scenic location, if a bit remote. Hosts are very hospitable and rooms are well kept. Enjoyed sitting on the spacious porch and of course bonding with the llamas. The llama trek was a great way to see the area and get to know the animals.

“amazing place for us and our dogs!”

We absolutely loved this place! Here are some of the highlights: walking our dogs each morning and evening on the huge farm, with lovely views of mountains and llamas; swimming in the pool under the stars (even though all rooms were booked, there was NEVER anyone else in it!); enjoying the hot tub; sitting out on the porch drinking wine; and eating breakfast with the other guests are just some of the wonderful things we enjoyed during our stay. The location is perfect--it's very close to Lexington and the Natural Bridge (make sure to visit Foamhenge, just a few miles down the road!). The rooms aren't super-fancy, but everything is clean, which is the most important thing, right? There was one (small) disappointment--the breakfasts were merely so-so (pancakes and sausage one day, omelets the next). So, just don't have high expectations for them, and you won't be disappointed! :)

“Not as advertised”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 June 2010

Certainly did not meet the standards I expect from a B&B Association member. Unkept grounds, treacherous walkways and stairways, substandard meals, and rules, rules, rules made my stay at the Applewood completely unsatisfying. The owners misrepresented themselves in their advertising, and I found them to be critical and condescending to their guests in the "upper", less expensive rooms. "Lower cost" guests, apparently, do not have access to all available amenities, while guests in the ground level rooms are favored. The owners should also make clear in their advertising that their facility is NOT smoker-friendly.

“too many rules”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 June 2010

It was a lovely facility, well isolated and quiet. However the food was not good. I recommend going to Lexington for breakfast. The room was well appointed and comfortable, but the hosts had too many rules and we never felt welcome as the other guests seemd to be more important. We did pet the dog when they weren't looking! That was forbidden for some odd reason.
