“Terrible food!! Nice ambiance!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012 via mobile

My husband took me here for a Valentine's Day weekend. The resort has a very beautiful ambiance, the staff is nice, but that is where it ends. The food was awful! We went to the "...Potomac Restaurant" and were surprised with a Valentine menu, that was $105 per person, with wine $135! You had to order from that menu, which was limited. We left, and ordered room service, which we sent back. The burger (yea, classy) was raw in the middle. They were very accommodating, but we starved. They gave us breakfast coupons for a buffet which we found out was the ONLY place to eat. Though tables were empty, there was a line clear across the hallway! They need to work on their business processes, and get some experienced cooks! Go for massage, but not to stay, or for dinner.

“Would only return for the spa”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

My mother and I used the Living Social deal and we immediately got the sense that the service we received was not going to be consistent with those paying full price. The front desk was not helpful when we did not have the Living Social voucher number on us. They would not accept our confirmation number/email. We were prompted, in an unfriendly way, to the technology room and were not given any treatment until we provided the voucher number. The spa was a nice experience for me (Dave was an amazing massage therapist) but entirely unpleasant for my mother. She was told by her therapist that since she had the Living Social deal, she would only receive a light, relaxation massage. My mother complained to the front staff because the massage was so light, there is was neither relaxing nor therapeutic in anyway. To be fair, they did remove the gratuity. Afterwards, we ate at On the Potomac. The food was average. My biggest qualm was that the soup I ordered was very unappetizing. The server said he would take it off the bill (since I did not eat it) but there was a charge for the soup when I checked out of the hotel on the final bill. After dinner, my mother and I just wanted to go back to the room (which was very spacious, fortunately) and watch a movie. We were shocked to see that the few selections available On Demand were $17.99 and even the 30 min television programs (e.g., old episodes of The Offce) were $4.99. All in all, the hotel was decent but it was the spa that left me impressed. However, it seems like the service you will receive from the spa is spotty - at least if you go with Living Social.

“Another Nice Stay - Updated Room!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

I last stayed at Lansdowne in August of 2011 and posted a review at that time. In that review I mentioned that the TVs could use an upgrade. On my latest visit I was pleasantly surprised by the additions of a large flat screen TV (at least 42") and an in room safe. This is definitely my favorite place to stay when business traveling. The staff is friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean and the food is good. There's a mini coffee/tea maker and 2 bottled waters are replenished every day. I also like that there are robes for use.

My only hesitation at a 5 / Excellent review would be the size of the room (a bit small) and the quality of the towels (rough and a little worn).

This is definitely my home away from home for business travel.

Dear Coastal Girl 4,
We appreciate your wonderful comments about our resort. Receiving comments like yours is valuable to the operation of the resort. If you’re back in the Virginia area during the summer, our aquatic complex is most relaxing and we also have a free concert on Friday evening. We look forward to having you back at the resort for another wonderful experience.

“OK but not great.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

Stayed here three times the last few years. Nice property but a few issues. First, the food is average at best but expensive. The rooms are very dry and have old fashioned heaters/air cond. the showers aren't very nice and it takes a long time to get hot water. Service was good.
