We stayed here over a weekend to visit Shenandoah National Park during the fall foliage season. We started from one end of the park through to the Swift Run Gap and down to the hotel one day, and from the other end of the park through to Swift Run and down to the hotel the second day.
Check-in was smooth and quick, and we were given the non-smoking king room we'd reserved. Everything was neat and clean. There were no damp or musty smells or foul odors. My husband, who has never smoked, said that he could smell a bit of smoke in our room ... that he could tell that smoking was permitted in other rooms ... but it wasn't overly smoky. It wasn't at a level worth complaining about. Personally, I didn't even notice.
The bathroom has just a shower, not a tub. The shower had a massager that worked. The bathroom was clean and spacious. Be sure to keep the shower curtain tucked in as you shower, or you will have a lake on the floor. Our room also had a mini-fridge, coffee maker, microwave, and built-in hair dryer.
The breakfast offering is average for this type of hotel. It had waffles, hard boiled eggs, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, milk and juice, coffee, mini-muffins, mini-donuts, english muffins, and bagels. About what you would expect for this type of hotel. If you don't like these breakfast offerings, you can literally walk across the parking lot to a Bob Evans, instead.
Other nearby offerings down the hill toward Bob Evans (west) include Panera Bread and Wal-Mart. Down the hill toward Texas Roadhouse (south) include a movie theater, McAlister's Deli, and the Wood Grill Buffet. We ate one night at McAlister's and one night at the Wood Grill Buffet. Both were great. But, if you go to Wood Grill Buffet, be advised that children from 4 to 12 eat for just 60 cents per year of age, so there are LOTS of families with small children here - it is not a quiet, romantic spot. All of these businesses are about 1 to 3 blocks away, easy walking distance if you'd like.
I like to run the fan for the heat or air conditioning all night, as "white noise" to help me sleep in a non-familiar place. There is a setting for this on the heat/air conditioning unit in the room and that masked unfamiliar noises.
We enjoyed our stay here and had no complaints. Check out was equally easy. We would stay here again, or recommend it to friends.
