“Pleasant stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

I stayed here based on cost and reviews on Tripadvisor. The room was pleasant and Chris at the front desk was very helpful. I ended up moving from 3rd floor to 1st floor and found that the 3rd floor smelled like smoke (because the 4th floor is the smoking floor), but the first floor did not. Lots of restaurants nearby. Oh - all rooms now have flat screen TV and at the curent time you can buy a 25 inch Zenith for $25!

“Wonderful Place to Stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

This hotel is an excellent place to stay! From the front desk staff to housekeeping, everyone here makes you feel at home. Had an unexpected snowstorm during Halloween weekend get away with my girlfriends,.decided to stay an extra night. No Problem! Convenient to restaurants and shopping. Clean and comfortable. Will definitely stay here again when opportunity arises.

“Just finished our 13th stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

Our son attends James Madison University. Anytime we are visiting him, we always stay at the Sleep Inn. Their rooms are always spotless and their staff are so professional and courteous. When I reserved our room for this last trip, I could only get a regular room for one night and then had to reserve a "suite" for the next night, according to their website, all other rooms were booked. When we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised to find out they were able to keep us in the regular room for both nights, the staff really tries hard to accommodate their patrons. Our son is graduating in May so that will be our last stay at the Sleep Inn but if we ever travel on I 81 and need a place to stay that will be my first choice.

“Nice stay during fall foliage season at Shenandoah Nat'l Park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

We stayed here over a weekend to visit Shenandoah National Park during the fall foliage season. We started from one end of the park through to the Swift Run Gap and down to the hotel one day, and from the other end of the park through to Swift Run and down to the hotel the second day.

Check-in was smooth and quick, and we were given the non-smoking king room we'd reserved. Everything was neat and clean. There were no damp or musty smells or foul odors. My husband, who has never smoked, said that he could smell a bit of smoke in our room ... that he could tell that smoking was permitted in other rooms ... but it wasn't overly smoky. It wasn't at a level worth complaining about. Personally, I didn't even notice.

The bathroom has just a shower, not a tub. The shower had a massager that worked. The bathroom was clean and spacious. Be sure to keep the shower curtain tucked in as you shower, or you will have a lake on the floor. Our room also had a mini-fridge, coffee maker, microwave, and built-in hair dryer.

The breakfast offering is average for this type of hotel. It had waffles, hard boiled eggs, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, milk and juice, coffee, mini-muffins, mini-donuts, english muffins, and bagels. About what you would expect for this type of hotel. If you don't like these breakfast offerings, you can literally walk across the parking lot to a Bob Evans, instead.

Other nearby offerings down the hill toward Bob Evans (west) include Panera Bread and Wal-Mart. Down the hill toward Texas Roadhouse (south) include a movie theater, McAlister's Deli, and the Wood Grill Buffet. We ate one night at McAlister's and one night at the Wood Grill Buffet. Both were great. But, if you go to Wood Grill Buffet, be advised that children from 4 to 12 eat for just 60 cents per year of age, so there are LOTS of families with small children here - it is not a quiet, romantic spot. All of these businesses are about 1 to 3 blocks away, easy walking distance if you'd like.

I like to run the fan for the heat or air conditioning all night, as "white noise" to help me sleep in a non-familiar place. There is a setting for this on the heat/air conditioning unit in the room and that masked unfamiliar noises.

We enjoyed our stay here and had no complaints. Check out was equally easy. We would stay here again, or recommend it to friends.

Room Tip: We asked to be put on an upper floor in a quieter area of the hotel, and we were placed on the secon...

“OK only if you are a smoker”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

We have often stayed at Sleep Inns while travelling bc they are clean and seem to be a step above the usual discount motel chain. (We have one of the Choice Hotel frequent stay cards.) We stayed here for Parents' Weekend at JMU. We would never stay here again. Our room was on the 4th floor and was a "non-smoking" room but the non-smoking rooms are on one side of the hall and smoking roooms are on the other side. The hallway reeked of smoke, when we came into our room we could smell the smoke on our clothes and during the night you could smell the smoke which came in through the door. Even though the temperature was in the 40's at night, we opened the window a crack to dissipate the smell. The next day, I opened a hallway window, which helped somewhat. This is NOT acceptable. Unless you are a smoker, stay at one of the comparably priced, nearby motels that are entirely non-smoking properties. This version of "non-smoking" was like a non-smoking seat at a restaurant where you are seated right next to a smoker.

I should note that this is also not the same set up as other Sleep Inns. Instead of the walk-in shower, this motel had a tub/shower as found in other motels. The hallway doors did not seal and the hallway lights were very bright, so there was a lot of light -- and smoke smell and noise -- coming through the door. Breakfast was comparable to other Sleep Inns.

Also, because this was Parents Weekend, the price of the motel was jacked up to $209 per night. Outrageous but they know that the local motels will sell out and they can charge whatever they want.

Because this was Parents Weekend at the university, we could not find alternate accomodations so we stayed there with the window open. When we mentioned this obvious failign to the front desk staff, they could not have cared less. When my wife said that we would not be staying there again, the only response was "OK".

I've submitted numerous reviews for Trip Advisor and have never submitted on comparable to this. Unless you are a smoker, stay somewhere else!
