I'm a touring musician that stayed at this location for a fri/sat night engagement at a local bar. When I walked into the hotel I was impressed by the beauty of it. My room smelled great and was very comfortable, until I fell asleep. First I was awakened by the aforementioned jet engine fan mounted under the window. Ok, annoying, but not a huge deal. Then the guest issues started. Someone (intoxicated and at 2 am) decided it was cool to set a slice of pizza in the microwave for 20 minutes. Long story short, there was a little smoke in ONE small part of the hotel and the fire alarm was on for at least a half hour and everyone was evacuated. The parking lot is exactly where I want to be at 2 am in January. It took forever to get it sorted out, the employees didn't seem too hip on the use of their alarm system, I'm impressed with their sense of urgency in dealing with fires and emergencies, but once they realized the extent (or lack thereof) of the problem it was already becoming a nightmare for the guests and should have been resolved faster.
Now on to the first morning.....EXTREME noise coming from my wing at 6,7, 8,9 AM and onward til I finally requested a room change. The walls were thin to the point where I could Identify at least 4 different rooms as the source of the noise and (with my door shut) I could make out "toes" by the Zac Brown Band, a girl with a nasaly voice calling everyone in her contacts, and of course the couple screwing next door. I buried my head in my pillow thinking mgmt would sort it out but the noise from these horrible guests continued. I finally lodged a complaint and to my pleasant surprise was offered a room at the very opposite end of the hall that was indeed much quieter. I figured this would be the end of my sleep issues. NOT.
The next night after coming in from my gig around 2 am, I swore I'd get a good nights sleep before my taxi showed up at 845...Guess what happened at 6:15? FIRE ALARM. For no less than a half hour again. By the time I got dressed and got down to the lobby they were directing people back to their rooms. Something to do with the kitchen. So up I went, but the noise continued. ON AND ON. explain to me how, if it is safe to go back to my room, the alarm is still on??? And we are talking about a 110 decibel hearing damage inducing type of fire alarm. This is UTTERLY ridiculous. 2 fire alarms in 2 nights,,,whole hotel roused and NO fires.,..at least not to my knowledge. After the first night they at least slid a note under the door attempting to smooth it over with the guests. This second was quite a scene, I saw guests in their pj's with all their stuff just leaving in a fury...I don't blame them. I'm glad to have my life looked out for but if its not really threatened I want my sleep!!
In addition, I agree about the breakfast being a joke. Sat down to eat the first morning. There was a flock of employees standing around seeming like servers but not really doing much, probably expecting to be tipped, while the breakfast food was clearly self serve. I had a cup of coffee, a cup of juice and an english muffin and the woman attempted to charge me almost $7...LOL. Again to their credit, however, they gave me a voucher for the meal as well as the next days. I have to say though that I used it as a tissue after the fire alarm repeat scenario.
Some of the problems with my stay were beyond the hotel's control. Most were not. When I go to a Hilton I expect at the very least peace and quiet, which they pretty much failed to provide on all counts. Some of the staff seemed a little rough around the edges for a hotel chain of this caliber. When there is that much noise in a hotel at those hours management should step in. Food experience left a lot to be desired. My travel fees are comped by my agency, so I wont be needing a refund (or be speaking on the agency's behalf) but maybe by the time I have to repeat this stay a month from now this review may have shed some light on some of these problems. Still a fan of Hiltons in general.
