“Needs some updating and TLC”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

I stay here every once in a while on business. There are still tube tv's in big armoires in the rooms. The wallpaper was peeling in my room as well.

The thermostats in the rooms are not digital and could be updated. The hallways were freezing cold (January 2012).

The staff is always super friendly, and the restaurant is on par with other Marriott restaurants. The workout room is a little on the small side with 2 treadmills, 2 ellipticals, a recumbant and some weights.

The Hotel Sierra and Hilton near Short Pump are newer and are closer to the shopping/entertainment areas.

“Betther Places to Stay in Short Pump Area of Richmond”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

This hotel is in much need of repair and renovation. The room I stayed it had wall paper coming off the wall, stains on the ottoman, and stains on the curtains. It is a dirty hotel and management does not seem to care that the hotel is dated and dirty. I would recommend staying at the Westin nearby or the new Hilton Short Pump. I have stayed at these two properties and they are clean, no stains on furniture or curtains and they are about the same price as the Richmond Marriott West. I would not stay at the Richmond Marriott West again.

Room Tip: None of the rooms are good.

“Not our cup of tea”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

We normally travel exclusively for leisure and our Marriott choices are Residence Inns and Springhills. My wife had a rare business trip and her employer booked this location. I was along for company and had read TA reviews prior to the trip and had serious doubts.
The check in agent growled that he needed a credit card and said nothing else. He didn't mention we had access to the Concierge level for breakfast through my wife's employer.
The room itself was decent size and, aside from a stray mitten on the floor, was clean. Wallpaper was peeling and the TV was ancient. The ultra slow internet was on a pay basis.
Exercise and pool areas were above average. Lobby was nice. Staff friendly enough except the checkin clerk.
All in all not terrible, just not for us.

“A Perfect Spot for a Seminar!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

I attended the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association Paralegal Seminar here this week. Excellent facility, perfect service and delicious food!! A lovely array of breakfast goodies greeted the seminar attendees--bagels, fruit and cinnamon danish and muffins were available to all along with coffee, tea and four different kinds of juices. Soda was provided in an open-front mini-fridge and the huge bowl of ice was never low or empty. When I arrived, one of the lobby personnel escorted me to the seminar area.

A buffet lunch was the highlight for me! Homemade cole slaw, potato salad and fruit salad started off the line, next up were condiments along with fresh lettuce, onions, and tomato, three kinds of bread. Five different kinds of deli meat were arranged on a platter. Chips and pretzels satisfied our desire for something salty. Three different layer cakes were displayed for dessert. The restaurant area was available to eat in, with iced tea and water at each place setting.

During the early afternoon break, HUGE cookies and brownies were available for snacking along with more sodas and coffee. Dirty dishes were removed almost as soon as you were finished--amazing service--very helpful and polite. I totally enjoyed the day!!!

“One night business stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

Decent, but dated Marriott. Corporately owned by a hotel management group that seems to be out of touch with customer value and service. Unless you are a gold or platinum Marriott reward member, there are no perks-concierge lounge, free Internet, etc. And considering that this hotel is dated, with peeling wallpaper in the guest rooms, old tube TV's, and noisy air conditioning, mgt. should think about their appeal. The bright spot here? The staff! They were great! Nathan at the front desk was awesome and everyone greeted me with a genuine smile. Engineering promptly checked my AC, room service was prompt, and down the line.
