This was our first time staying in a Bed & Breakfast and it was a great experience. 200 South Street Inn was a charming place with friendly staff, nice rooms, and was close to downtown.

We were in town to celebrate our anniversary and were looking for somewhere to stay that would be within walking distance of the downtown mall area, where all the shops and restaurants are. The 200 South Street Inn was about 2 blocks away, which was very convenient.

They served complimentary wine and cheese from about 5-7pm. We enjoyed the complimentary breakfast as well. There were various types of fruit, breads, yogurt, and granola to choose from. We were wanting a fairly healthy breakfast so that was perfect

There is a brewery right next door which had some great beer. There are lots of great restaurants in the area. We enjoyed a Sunday brunch in an outdoor dining area downtown.

We stayed in Room 7. It was a nice room on the second floor with hardwood floors, a shelf ceiling, a couple windows, and 4 poster bed.

There are train tracks directly behind the property. A couple trains came through while we were there, but they didn't bother us. I'm guessing the trains aren't allowed to use their horns while going through town so you could just hear and feel the rumble of it going by. I never heard it run late at night, so it was no problem.

I had no complaints. It was a nice place to stay, with a comfortable atmosphere and was just what we were looking for!

A nice inn, and one I would recommend. The place to stay in Charlottesville if you're looking for ambience, location, and to avoid the chains. It is located downtown next to the mall and all sorts of restaurants. My room was pretty, air-conditioned, quiet, wi-fi equipped, and nicely furnished. The bathroom was fine. The staff was young and pleasant, though not solicitous. (The owners seem to have been away.) The public rooms are small--just one sitting room, not enough seating for the number of guests who stay there--two houses!-- so if you can't get one of those five or six seats you have to carry breakfast out to the porch or to your room. The porch is nice in good weather, but what to do in the rain or winter? Carry food to your room... The baking was fresh, very good. Delicious cookies and coffee cake. But breakfast was all carbs, no protein except for a selection of Yoplait--no eggs or omelettes, no organic yoghurt etc., to energize one for the day. It wasn't the generous meal that one gets at really fine bed and breakfasts. The inn feels overpriced.

We stopped here mid-week without a reservation and were the only guests! We were able to negotiate a price for a great room as business was so slow. Bathroom was not very flash, but clean and perfectly adequate. Room was charming - beautiful antiques. Great breakfast. Even better was the wrap-around porch which we spent the evening on, sitting on our rocking chairs and enjoying the complimentary wine and cheese. Really convenient for downtown Charlottesville, but still peaceful. Good base or stop-off point if you're visiting Monticello or heading to Shenandoah National Park.

A wonderful experience in all ways. Location is excellent to the walking are of Charlottesville with access to great restaurants and stores. Excellent fresh cookies on the way in and a breakfast with excellent coffee and fresh fruit and a variety of cakes and rolls.

As a note the water pressure in the shower was incredible. A nice touch you rarely find in a large, old house.

I would recommend 200 South Street to anyone.

This is a fine bed and breakfast but it is not cute or beautiful enough for its pricing. I've stayed in places like this one for much cheaper and I chose this place thinking I was going to splurge on a gorgeous hotel on a road trip with my mother. It was disappointing! They need to lower the rates.
