Gorgeous beach setting on the Eastern Shore of Virginia across from the Eastern Shore of VA National Wildlife Refuge, and convenient to Kiptopeke State Park, Cape Charles & Sting-rays Restaurant. Friendly & helpful staff. Mattresses & linens have been upgraded. Items that beg repair: Wireless Internet access is only in lobby. Guest Laundry has no dryers. Ice machine is leaky & not sanitary appearing. ALL CARPETING needs to be replaced. All rooms need mini-fridge & microwave. Breakfast needs more whole grain, high fiber & fruit options.Price is too high for the value.

This hotel was one of most dirties hotels that I have stayed in and I travel quite a bit. Very expensive and it was not worth the price. The bathroom drain did not work properly. Every time we took a shower, the water would not drain and we each had to wait for the water to drain before the other person could take a shower. Because the water could not drain properly - the stub was very dirty the following morning. Immediately upon entering the suite - there was an unpleasant odor. The soap dish was broken and the sofa bed sheets looked like they have not been changed in a very long time. We arrived around 2:00am in the morning - so we had no choice but to spend the night, however, the very next day we checked out of the hotel. I would rather have slept in my car than this hotel room. If you can find a better place to stay, please do not stay here.

We had a whole bunch of guests into town, so we let several stay in our house and we just took a room at the Sunset Beach Hotel, which is a good hour away, but closer to where our event would be. It has come a long way since I was a kid. Would I call it a five-star getaway? Not on your life... but staff has improved, and you can see that daily improvements are being made.

The beach is excellent, with a great water temperature, and there are plenty of chairs and rental kayaks down there. They have their own bar/cafe with a friendly staff. It's a bit of a hike from the hotel to the beach, so if you're carrying things, you'll want to drive and park down there.

The rooms still aren't anything to write home about, but these days they are clean and acceptable for the price. It seems like the new management cares about transforming this place and making it into what it could (and ought to) be. It may not yet be as cozy as one of the hotels up Rt. 13, but at least you're right on the water and have your own beach.

Overall, we were happy with it. If you have been around the Shore a while, you are aware of the depths to which this property sank, which makes the transformation that much more enjoyable.

We had a family reunion planned in the Sunset Grille; which was lovely. The restaurant and the Beach were awesome. No complaints. Out family of 8 all booked rooms in the hotel. To be fair 3 out of the 4 rooms must have gotten the newly renovated rooms. I on the other hand was not so lucky. Don't let them put you in room 101. With broken hangers, old tv, old bathroom with green mold and mildew on the pipes. My daughter freaked out with the bugs near on the loud air-conditioner. No phone in the room to call down to the front desk to complain about the musty, old smell. They switched us to a better room but only had a king size available. We finally settled in and was able to sleep in for the night. The next morning there was no water...didn't get any until almost 11am. Unable to use the bathroom as the tiolet will not flush without water ugh. When the water eventually came back on in the sink and shower only... it was scalding HOT! We could not get out of there fast enough.
