“Will never stay here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2011

I had to travel to Bedford on business and I was advised by a Bedford resident not to stay there because she had heard many bad things about the hotel. Despite the advice I booked a room because it was the cheapest. My appointment ended up being canceled because of bad weather so I called before 6pm (the hotel's policy is to cancel before 6pm that night). When I called the hotel the clerk informed me my reservation could not be canceled because I booked through a third party (Priceline). I then spoke with Priceline who informed me the clerk refused to cancel the reservation and there was nothing they could do since the clerk would not cancel the reservation and offered no reason as to why. I also spoke with a customer service representative of Days Inn who offered no solution or reason why I couldn't cancel. In the end I was charged for a room I never even stayed in. Very disappointed in Days Inn and Priceline. In the future I will not be a customer of either company.

I want to apologize for your problems here at the days inn and also priceline, and i would also like to expalin, as no one else has. When your reservation is booked throught a third party, such as priceline, travelweb, orbitz, etc. at that time the third party immediately takes your money from your credit card, they then issue the reservation throught the central reservation system which eventually comes to us. the reservation is "grayed out" so there is nothing that we can modify on the reservation. priceline is the persons who have your money for the room you reserved and hopefully, the would grant you a credit. i am sorry this happened to you and if i can be of some help someway please let me know. kathi wright property manager wrightkathi2000@yahoo.com

“HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2010

The ONLY good thing I can say about our Sep, 24, 2010, stay is, the hotel check-in staff was nice. From the moment we checked in, until our early depature, it was a complete disaster. First of all,, the third weekend of September, we had stayed at the Midtown ORLANDO, Fld., Days Inn, with a good experience. The rates at the ORLANDO Days Inn was as stated on the internet @ a reasonable September rate of $38.40/ night, for an economy class hotel. We were a mere 10 mins from Universal Studios and other Orlando attractions. Because of our nice experience in Florida, we decided to check for a Days Inn close to the Peaks of Otter in Virginia. The directory lead us to the Days Inn in Bedford, Va. We checked their rates and the hotel website said for the night of September 24, 2010, the rate was $54.95 (not an internet or special discount rate, but their general rate). We decided not to make a reservation just in case we did not make it to our destination in Va by Friday night. However, we did and stopped to make reservations at in this very small out of the way town hotel. The clerk, who was very nice, but informed us the rate was $90.00 per night. When we questioned her about the amount, she said that was their weekend rate. Thinking possibly it was some typed of supply/demand issue, and for some unknown reason, this hotel was booked near capacity, we paid the amount.. Although, we now view it as false advertising. When we arrived to our room, it was an OUTDATED mess. The paint was pealing off the trim and baseboard, the carpet was dirty and musty, the bedspread looked dirty. We decided to take the bedspread off the bed and just sleep under, what we hoped to be clean sheets and blanket. After showering, I decided to lay down to watch some TV, while my husband set at the table and attempted to log on the "free" wireless internet in order to check our sight seeing plans for the next day. However, he was never able to log on and mind you we travel over 1/2 of each year, with no problems using our laptop to log into other hotel WIFI spots. A call to the front desk yielded a simple, "Our internet is working fine." Next, we noticed dark brown bugs dropping from the ceiling onto our bed. When my husband would smash one of the bugs in a tissue, it smelled something horrible. We found a total of 15 to 20 bugs. But, the final straw came when I started noticing areas on my arm that looked like tiny bug bites. My husband inspected the back of my neck and found the same type areas. While I went to take another shower, my husband loaded our suitcases in the Jeep, and we pulled out of the hotel parking lot at 2:30 am. A quick drive around the hotel revealed it to be no more then 1/2 full to capacity. Certainly, making the nearly double rate increase unjustified. An attempt at refund was useless, as we were told we told we would need to speak to a manager on Monday. Luckily, we found a jewel of a hotel a short ten minute drive up 640 East called, Timberlake Motel. An older, family ran hotel with quaint, clean rooms and excellent service. The rate was only $63.00/night. In face, were so impressed with Timberlake Motel, we reserved a second night. As for BEDFORD DAYS INN--I would not recommend it to anyone!!!!

“You get what you pay for”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2010

I stayed two nights in June. Called ahead to get a rate and was quoted $55 per night. I didn't make a reservation but checked to see how many rooms they had available. They had at least nine rooms available both nights. I arrived 18 hours later. The rate was now $69 and they only had one room for both night. Did Bedford suddenly become the "must see" destination overnight? Anyway, the manager, after much negotiation on my part, gave me the lower rate....and then gave me his card and said "go on TripAdvisor and give a good review because of rate I give you." I'll give whatever review I want, my friend, but thanks for honoring the rate that YOU gave me over the phone.

Place is very basic. No frills. TVs get weak cable reception (caused by splitting the lines too many times...a cheap tactic). Shower was small but, they had put a curved shower curtain rod to make it appear bigger when you are showering. I like that, actually. Beds were made poorly because no fitted sheet on bottom. Just a regular sheer set on top of the bed. A few moves around and your basically lying on the mattress. ewww...

Anyway, you get what you pay for. It's ok if all you need is a place to lay your head, which is all I did need. It works for that. I was there for a funeral so, I had plenty of other places to be. I would never stay here as part of a vacation.

btw....Bedford is beautiful and the D-Day Memorial should be experienced by all Americans. It's worth the trip.

“Not a good experience”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 May 2010

I am currently staying at the hotel. I am grateful for a fridge and microwave. But my key works only part of the time. Today I made three trips to the front desk in the rain and cold to get this addressed. I am not happy with being stranded outside my door. If I were a woman, I would not stay here as it would not be safe if you get stuck outside your room because the key does not work. I was told to just try and make the key work. I asked to be moved to another room and the guy working the front desk told me to just keep trying the key. He even came to my room and couldn't make the key work every time. I would not stay here again if I can help it. The customer service is terrible. I live on the road and use the key cards all the time. There is a problem and no one wants to address it.

“Not elegant but very comfortable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 May 2010

Days Inn Bedford was clean, spacious, and comfortable. The price was right.

Because it is a large property with numerous rooms away from the highway (something we didn't know in advance), we wondered why they put us on the front. The other negative was a noisy heating/air conditioning unit. If we had we planned to stay more than one night, we would have requested another room.

The adjoining Mexican restaurant was very good.
