Let me start off by saying our thoughts are with all the residents of Wimington, Dover, and all towns affected by hurricane Irene.
We booked The White House Inn for our wedding ceremony and reception back in January. My wife grew up in East Dover, Vermont and was very familiar with all venues in the area. After visiting every option in the area we were blown away by everything the White House had to offer. From the moment we walked in we were amazed by the hospitality and friendliness of the staff. The owner Stacy gave us a tour, offered us a drink, and took us through all aspects of what they had to offer. Their flexibility and willingness to work with us was beyond anything else we experience on our search for a venue. At that moment we made the decision to go with The White House.
After making arrangements with Stacy we coordinated everything else with Wendy, the Inn manager. From the first time we spoke with her she made us feel extremely confident in her knowledge and expertise in coordinating the remaining details of our wedding. She went above and beyond from the beginning drawing us a details schematic of the entire inn so we could set up our guest’s accommodations and other event details. She was always easily accessible, and when she was not Mark or another of the staff was always there.
So after months off work and coordination on everyone’s behalf we showed up for our wedding weekend. The Inn was immaculate (I randomly went into some of the guests rooms before people arrived and they were all spotless). When a guest arrived and there was not an AC unit in their room the staff immediately installed one. All the guests arrived and were checked in immediately by the very courteous staff.
From the time we checked in there was not a time when one of the staff was not there to answer questions, take a food order, get people a drink, or any other request.
Once our wedding day arrived the staff was working hard behind the scenes making everything happen smoothly. Every aspect of the ceremony and receptions went off without a hitch. If this was the end of our experience we would still be absolutely amazed, but it was not…..thanks to Hurricane Irene!!
The morning of Sunday, August 29 2011 is one our guests and The White House will never forget. Irene held off until after our reception, but hit hard that morning. About 90% of our guests were not able to get home that day. Once everyone realized we could not leave the White House Inn that’s where the staff truly stepped up to the next level. All our rooms were held for us until we could leave. Even though we were basically and island due to the storm the staff that was there were still able to serve us breakfast (which is included in your stay and was AMAZING), lunch, and dinner. Oh, and this was all with NO ELECTRICITY. As most of the staff had their own issues happening because of the storm (Craig we are all relieved your cat was ok) they were still taking care of us, even driving us in the White House Inn truck to the supermarket to get supplies.
Monday morning Wendy kept us all informed of the road situations and help with giving everyone directions home. Even though we were all relieved to get back to our homes and loved ones, it was still sad to leave the Inn because of the way it was our home for a few days during that crazy time.
With all that being said I would recommend anyone to stay our have their wedding at The White House Inn and urge Wendy or Stacy to point anyone who wants a reference in my direction.
Thanks again to Stacy, Wendy, Mark, Craig, and the entire staff for an unforgettable and amazing wedding!!!
