“Best getaway weekend ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

My fiancé and I used a Living Social deal to attend a murder mystery weekend at the Austin Hill Inn. We had a complete blast!! Don't expect a pristine experience- instead, think of it like a home stay at a family member's house. After reading some of the previous reviews before going, I was really uncertain of what to expect... After our weekend, I'm so glad I went into it without defined expectations! It was totally clean, the food was yummy and homecooked, the murder mystery plot was well done and the group we were apart of was FANTASTIC! All ages, personalities...it was amazing. And John and Deb (innkeepers) were so kind and welcoming (so was the dog)!! We'll definitely return.

“Great place - fun weekend!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

4 of us went up for a Murder Mystery Weekend and had a blast. All around - it was a great weekend getaway.

Positive:
The rooms we saw (including ours) had their own fireplace for a delightful (warm) country stay.

The meals were delicious, and more than adequately accompanied with wine.

The inn keeper & wife really made the murder mystery event a super fun experience, and I can't wait to go back to try out other themes for the murder mysteries.

For this weekend - the inn keeper really went out of his way on several occasions to make the experience as good as possible (e.g., made last-minute vegetarian options, stayed upbeat and "in the theme" throughout the murder mystery even with a headcold, found power converters for a laptop, etc.). We felt like special guests.

The Living Social partnership makes the value even better.

Negative:
The walls are thin, as you'd expect in an old inn like this one, so if you're a party-pooper expect to be kept up by the fun-loving guests having a rowdy time downstairs.

The food was delicious, but there could have been more of it, as it always ran out.

Be sure to bring your own shampoo, soap, etc.

Last Word:
I'd like to reiterate how accommodating John the inn-keeper was. He responded quickly and courteously to any request, and was so clearly motivated to make sure every guest had a great time.

“Murder mystery weekend”

John and Debbie are awesome hosts. The inn is easy to find, rooms are nicely decorated and comfortable and the Murder dinner party was terrific. Lots of fun. Met people from all over. Would make a great get away for families or groups. The awards breakfast with everyne was a great ending to a fantastic weekend. Definately the first of more trips.

“First stay of many!”

I came across the Inn through a Living Social deal and thought it would be a fun way to try something new.

The entire weeked surpassed my expectations completly. The Inn had that 'grandmothers house' feeling, which is very comforting and inviting. John, the owner, was VERY nice and was there to assist with anything and everything. My room had a gas fireplace that was awesome, and cranked out heat - which was a great touch for me and my guest. The food was homecooked, filling, and pretty tasty - not one couple in our group didn't clean their plate every meal. The story line was written very well with many twists and turns.

Above and beyond what was included in the Murder Mystery package, John provided directions and reservations to a local horse farm for horseback riding on Saturday during our free time.

I absolutly would and am reccomending this getaway for any couple or group of friends that want to do something different than the normal. Me and my girl friend had an awesome time that we will always remember, and plan on making another trip for a different story line!

Thank you John!

“Bring a Portable Heater!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 March 2010

Our bedoom did not have a gas fireplace and the heat never came up. We froze our buns off. We had no TV. Innkeeper is not only stingy with heat but with food and lighting fires too. The Murder Mystery is what it is and only what you make of it. If you are allergic to dogs, stay away as the resident pet is all over the first floor sitting room and dining room. Just not a warm (literally) and inviting inn.
