“Comfy Stay, Perfect for Mt. Snow”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Like many others, we had a Living Social deal that we used for a nice snowboarding weekend at Mt. Snow. Phil, the innkeeper, was very kind and showed us around the inn when we arrived. We stayed in the Green Mountain Room which was perfect for us...the fireplace made everything so nice and cozy. The dinner we had was yummy, but the breakfasts were delicious!

The charm of the inn made the whole weekend cozy. We loved the uneven floors, woodburning fireplace in the common room, and the wooden beams. The shower was a little tight, but we have been in MUCH tinier rooms/bathrooms at some inns so we were very happy with our room.

The proximity to Mt. Snow made getting to the slopes so easy. We did not receive a picnic lunch or small pizza that was listed in the original deal, but we were snowboarding at Mt. Snow all day so we wouldn't have used it anyways. After our tiring day on the hill, we came back, turned the fireplace on, and vegged out for the rest of the night...such a perfect getaway from our usual crazy life!

Would definitely stay here again!

“Cozy Inn with the real feel of Vermont”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I stayed at the Inn in mid-January to go snowboarding at Mount Snow. I've never stayed at an Inn before, and I was very pleased with my stay. Upon checking in, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They walked us to our room and showed us around the Inn. We got to the Inn fairly late on Friday evening, and we were happy to see that the restaurant was open till 10pm for dinner. The food we had was extremely good. The menu is limited but the selection was great. The tavern was a nice little bar, perfect for having a drink after a day of skiing or winding down for the evening. Greg the bartender was very friendly, and gave us a lot of information about the area. Weekends have great live music, and unfortunately, we missed the magician on saturday night, but heard from others that he is amazing.

Our room was fairly small, but I had to remind myself that I'm staying at an Inn, and we did not get a suite. The room was a bit on the cold side at some times, but also need to remember you're staying in a house that was build in the 1800's, I'm sure they have some drafts, and it was -9 that night. Definitely will come back to this place again, as it was a great experience.

“Average Stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

Like many of the guests at the West Dover Inn, we were visiting on the Living Social package. Not sure if this made a difference, but thought it should be mentioned.

First the positives. The Inn Keeper - Phil - is a very nice man. He is warm and makes you feel welcome at the Inn. He is very knowledgeable about the area and really helps you find your way around. We came up without an "itinerary" of what to do and Phil was very helpful with suggestions and directions. The hotel is also an excellent location for exploring Southern Vermont. It is two minutes from Mt. Snow and close to Wilmington, VT, as well. There is plenty to do and the Inn is a great launching pad for a visit.

Now for the average: The Inn is just mediocre. The furnishings are relatively bare in the rooms - no luxury with the textiles, linens or bathroom amenities. The room we were in was somewhat small with a tiny bathroom. The common living area was nicer with games and books set out and comfy couches. One complaint was that the heating was not working properly. Perhaps this was a result of the storm (although we had called ahead and were told that the Inn was unaffected by it). Our first night was okay, but the second night, the room was cold and when we woke up, it was very chilly. We tried to call the inn keeper with our cell phones, but no one picked up the phone, so we just stayed cold until we packed up to check out.

Also average, was the food at the 1876 Tavern. We had appetizers there one evening that were just fair. The breakfasts were run of the mill - more average diner quality than interesting B&B. The maple syrup was excellent, but everything else tasted more or less out of the jar. But the selection was very nice and the quantity was good.

On the whole, we probably would not return to this Inn, but would try another lodging in the area, as this was nothing special. Again, maybe this was due to the Living Social package (for example, the first morning, the Inn Keeper stands up at breakfast and gives a "standard speech" about how he does this every day and here are the list of activities and pre-printed directions and coupons, etc. This gives it more of a feel that you just got off the tour bus, rather than staying at a cozy B&B). But, if you are looking for a base to go skiing or touring Southern VT and you think the price is acceptable, the Inn is clean and satisfactory.

“Comfy historic inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2011

We spent a couple of nights here just to relax. The room was large and the bed comfortable. Phil, the inn keeper, was very helpful and provided directions to attractions in the area as well as local color. The inn is historic so floors are not even, which added to the charm. Our room had a gas fireplace which kept the room toasty warm and although there was baseboard heat in the room, it did not extend to the bathroom so that room was a bit chilly in the morning since it was at the opposite end of the room from the heat. We had purchased a package through Living Social so we had a picnic lunch included which was very handy when touring around as we stopped by the river to eat which added to the charm of the trip. The attached restaurant served amazingly good food. We will likely return again when we want to just get away and spend some time chilling out.

Room Tip: Rooms in the back will be quieter as the inn is on a main road.

“Pleasant Inn, Helpful Staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

An historic Vermont Inn, West Dover is run by Phil and his family. He and staff are congenial and helpful with travel tips - especially helpful since some roads were still under repair - and a box lunch in a cooler.

The rooms are clean and neat but could use some upgrading. We had a front upstairs room/bath which was tiny and had only one bedside lamp. The Inn is on Route 100 which carries a lot of traffic day and night. The Inn is very handy to Mt. Snow so a very good choice for skiers.

Complementary breakfast was nicely done. Dinner menu options were tasty but limited.

Room Tip: Choose a room away rom the front/road.
