Like many of the guests at the West Dover Inn, we were visiting on the Living Social package. Not sure if this made a difference, but thought it should be mentioned.
First the positives. The Inn Keeper - Phil - is a very nice man. He is warm and makes you feel welcome at the Inn. He is very knowledgeable about the area and really helps you find your way around. We came up without an "itinerary" of what to do and Phil was very helpful with suggestions and directions. The hotel is also an excellent location for exploring Southern Vermont. It is two minutes from Mt. Snow and close to Wilmington, VT, as well. There is plenty to do and the Inn is a great launching pad for a visit.
Now for the average: The Inn is just mediocre. The furnishings are relatively bare in the rooms - no luxury with the textiles, linens or bathroom amenities. The room we were in was somewhat small with a tiny bathroom. The common living area was nicer with games and books set out and comfy couches. One complaint was that the heating was not working properly. Perhaps this was a result of the storm (although we had called ahead and were told that the Inn was unaffected by it). Our first night was okay, but the second night, the room was cold and when we woke up, it was very chilly. We tried to call the inn keeper with our cell phones, but no one picked up the phone, so we just stayed cold until we packed up to check out.
Also average, was the food at the 1876 Tavern. We had appetizers there one evening that were just fair. The breakfasts were run of the mill - more average diner quality than interesting B&B. The maple syrup was excellent, but everything else tasted more or less out of the jar. But the selection was very nice and the quantity was good.
On the whole, we probably would not return to this Inn, but would try another lodging in the area, as this was nothing special. Again, maybe this was due to the Living Social package (for example, the first morning, the Inn Keeper stands up at breakfast and gives a "standard speech" about how he does this every day and here are the list of activities and pre-printed directions and coupons, etc. This gives it more of a feel that you just got off the tour bus, rather than staying at a cozy B&B). But, if you are looking for a base to go skiing or touring Southern VT and you think the price is acceptable, the Inn is clean and satisfactory.
