“Nice but could be better”

I feel like Luc is so laid back that he comes across as stand-offish. I did not like having to walk through the family's kitchen every time we wanted to get back and forth to our room. Breakfast was served way too late for anyone who wants to get to the mountain before 9:30. I have never been too any inn where they do not offer at least two choices of food. Here there was only one choice, and they were all very sweet. My husband is diabetic. That said, the food was not bad. I would have liked more variety and choices though.

Also, the room could have definitely been cleaner.

The hot tub was very nice.

“Relaxing B&B near Sugarbush”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2011

We stayed at this bed and breakfast inn on a ski trip to Sugarbush during the new year week. The only downside, which may not be all that bad, was that it's about 10-15 minute drive from the Sugarbush Lincoln peak. Otherwise, everything about the place was fantastic. I looked forward to enjoying the outdoor hot tub after a day on the slopes. Guests traded stories and places to eat by the fireplace. Luc's family is warm and friendly. Best of all was getting spoiled by the three course breakfast in the morning to get you going.

“Tolting thru the Fall Foilage - I Love Icelandic Horses!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2010

We are a group who take an annual horseback riding trip with Equitours (worldwide locations). We decided to stay at the Mad River Inn and test ride Karens Icelandic Horses with the possibility of going to Iceland. Most people reading this review are interested in the Inn, but I cannot stress enough that riding these sweet, user-friendly horses is an amazing experience. The fall foilage, the covered bridges and their unique movement was very special.....and we are not easily impressed! Back at the Inn, Luc is a wonderful, laid back and knowledgeable host who cooks a three course breakfast, different every day. Very tasty and tasteful. It was my first time at a B & B and I loved this experience. Luc & Karen's two little daughters were a joy... (Thanks Isabelle, for all the riding tips!!) Thanks to Karen's mom who provided hot cider, squash soup and corn chowder/sandwiches/cheese for lunch.......Thanks to Alice who taught me that my horses feet must say "Black'n Decker, Black'n Decker" to get the tolt - and they did! Cool!.... Some of us stayed on for the weekend (our ride was one week) and ate at the The Pitcher Inn (upscale), The Common Man (we did take out pizza, yummy... go early to put your name on the list for later seating) and Milford Inn (delicious & interesting menu). The shopping in the area is mostly art, antiques and ski/outdoor wear. We enjoyed the Warren Store across from The Pitcher Inn in Warren. The local goat cheese is also incredible. This was a fun, relaxing trip. We're already plotting how we can go back to Mad River Inn and ride the horses for a long weekend! The only thing to remember, which most people except me seemed to understand, is that you need your own transportation. You cannot walk to the Farm or the town, but you'll want to explore further anyway.

“A gem of a B&B, AND a great riding experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2010

My husband and I stayed at Mad River Inn for a few days in August, and loved it. The room was comfortable (though not for travelers looking for modern furnishings and fixtures). The host Luc was warm and friendly, and a good cook who prepared breakfast for us each morning (excellent muffins though I could have done with a savory rather than sweet entree myself). We ate each morning on the porch, overlooking the beautiful valley that is Mad River Glen. Nancy, his wife, runs the Icelandic Horse Farm a few miles away, where we had some excellent rides. She and her staff work hard to ensure that all riders, from beginner to advanced, have a good time. All in all, a super experience and one we look to repeat.

“A great inn for skiers!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2010

Recently, we stayed at the Mad River Inn. The host , Luc, was friendly and helpful. We always looked forward to the tea and homemade cookies after long days on the slopes. Luc made us a great three course breakfast each morning: muffins, fruit and a special main course like eggs benedict! It was cozy and had a fireplace where guests would gather and talk. The rooms and the beds were comfortable. I wish we brought our bathing suits because there is a hot tub. This is our second time coming to the Mad River Inn and we hope to go back again.:>)
