“Comfy Cottage in a Beautiful Setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

We just returned from staying a few nights at the Millbrook Inn. We stayed in the Octagon House, however, and can't comment on the quality of the Inn itself or the food there.

That said, our stay was very pleasant. The Octagon House is very much like a cottage, so don't expect fancy amenities. However, it has all that you need for a lengthy stay. We were very comfortable with five people. The house is equipped with a working kitchen, various pots and pans and some basic sundries. As a result, it is not hard to cook and eat there. One bedroom has an ensuite, which is very convenient.

The photos on the web do not depict the actual size of the place, which is larger. There is free cable, a DVD player, and free local calls. The gas fireplace is lovely to sit around. There is a basement area with plenty of storage, especially for ski equipment. There is also a washer and dryer, which is very convenient.

The property itself is gorgeous, with lovely views of the Inn and the valley. If you are a skier, location is perfect: just miles from both Mad River Glen and Sugarbush. There are many shops and restaurants a short drive away in Waitsfield, which is a very pretty town. Nearby are several other equally gorgeous towns, and of course the contryside is beautiful.

A word of warning: Vermont in winter is not very forgiving, so be sure to travel in a vehicle that can handle slippery conditions. On two occasions we had trouble getting up to the parking spot for the House.

Overall we were happy with our stay and would not hesitate to recommend the Octagon House at the Millbrook Inn.

“Great stay”

We stayed 3 nights in July 2011 on our way down from Montreal and we had an amazing stay. I will definitely be back to Millbrook Inn as I want to ski at Mad River Glen this winter, if work allows, hopefully. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in the area. Joan is a great host and she cooks my eggs perfectly in the morning. We loved her dog, the ponds and house has an amazing feel.

“Delightful stay in Waitsfield VT”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2011

We arrived at Millbrook Inn on our bicycles just minutes ahead of a downpour of rain. Our innkeeper, Joan Gorman, greeted us and helped us organize our bikes in a safe dry place and we got inside quickly, as the skies opened up in a deluge.
We washed up, rested and went to the dinig room where we ate a delicious dinner of local pork tenderloins, acompanied by a delicious wine, and followed by a fruit tart for dessert.
A great sleep. We wandered a bit in the big back yard, and then Joan sent us on our way after an omelet breakfast on the back patio.

This is a lovely inn. The anadama bread alone is worth the trip to Waitfield.

“Charming & Comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2011

We recently enjoyed three nights at Millbrook Inn. Our rooms were clean, each with en suite bathroom. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were airy and decorated with lovely antiques. Joan was very knowledgable about the area and recommended wonderful restaurants for us to visit on our day trips. We had Joan prepare dinner for us the first night. It was delicious and wonderful. Freshly prepared using local products, everything was great and carefully prepared from the appetizer to the dessert. She has a good wine selection, too. We enjoyed breakfast each morning on the patio. Delicious and very satisfying. The Inn is cozy and unpretentious, comfortable and lived in. There are plenty of places to relax in the public rooms where you can enjoy photo albums of the proprietors vast travels around the globe. We enjoyed our stay very much. Thanks Joan!

“Nice stay, great Indian dinner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2011

My wife and I stayed here in early July for one night while driving through VT. The inn was very charming and we had a brief, but comfortable stay. I had communicated w/ Joan, the innkeeper, by email several weeks in advance to set up dinner reservations since the restaurant is now open only to guests who book in advance. She cooked us a tasty vegan Indian dinner which I washed down w/ several of the local VT brews in stock. Breakfast the next morning was also good. VT ham and local eggs served outside on the patio. A great way to start the day. Thanks Joan for your hospitality.
