This was the perfect budget choice for skiing at Sugarbush. The rooms are a little dated but spacious, warm and very clean. The breakfasts are excellent and the owners are very friendly. We would definitely consider coming back here.

Returned to the Golden Lion for the first time in a couple of years and had another nice stay. It's nice to see the work the owners have done and it has a fresh new look with new paint and signs. Good, hearty breakfasts before we hit the slopes and the folks who run the place were always helpful and knowledgeable about the area.

We had a great ski trip to Sugarbush and Mad River Glen. The people and atmosphere of the Mad River Valley cannot be beat. I only wish I could make it up more often!

We stayed her when up for a wedding and liked this hotel. The owners were friendly and helpful and served good breakfasts. They seemed to know a lot about the area. The rooms were clean and large and not very expensive.

The only funny thing was that I couldn't figure out how the cable worked at first and had to have someone come and help me out.

We recently stayed at the Golden Lion for a family event. I was disappointed on several levels. First, the rooms are quite dirty. Not that the carpets weren't clean or there was grime, but the walls were covered in scuff marks, the furniture had stains, and the tub was worn with overuse. The window in our bathroom did not open and the screen was filthy. The furniture was terribly old and worn , and looks like it was bought at several different yard sales (don't even look at the "art" on the walls). The bed sagged in the middle and the pillows were of poor quality. What the place really needs is a handy man to fix things, add a coat of paint, and replace the aging furniture. That said, all of these problems did not warrant a $100+ a night price in the middle of the summer (low season in the Mad River valley).

I am giving it a one-star rating for four reasons. 1) The staff was friendly, if oblivious to the problems 2) The easy pet policy. 3) The breakfast was above average, but not special 4) Because I can't give it a no-star rating.
