“Hit and Miss”

We stayed in one of the townhouses, a group of six. After the shock of 80's flashback, you realized the place was fairly well maintained and clean. I did learn that some units have been updated but we got one of the older ones. While the property claims "ski-in, ski-out," it's a little misleading as you we did have a bit of a walk to the lift. I've stayed in ski-in, ski-out before and this is not it. To ski-in, there's an unmarked un-groomed trail with a very flat section. You are better taking the trail back down to the lift and hoofing it back to your townhouse.

The heating in our place was horrible. One minute hot, the next cold. The third bedroom is in the finished basement and although they were nice enough to include a 1970's space heater (really), it didn't do the job. This room was quickly dubbed the crypt by our group. It's a place to stowe the kids by not adults.

The TV got 4.5 channels and you watched that on the most uncomfortable 80's furniture ever made. After a long day of great skiing, it would have been nice to relax with a glass of wine and watch some TV or a movie before heading out for dinner. Not here.

Front desk people were very pleasant. Cleaning service was prompt and did a good job. Plenty of towels. They did remove all of the soaps, shampoos and lotions on the last day as if they were concerned that we would take everything. We received a ton of snow during our visit and each time, both the lots and walkways were promptly cleared. Take advantage of the morning breakfast. The apre-ski bar is only open on weekends, which makes sense.

It seems they take these flaws into consideration because it was reasonably priced. We will probably stay elsewhere the next time we visit. It wasn't clear if Stowe owned our unit or simple manages it. If it's the former, they would be wise to modernize it.

“Cozy & Cheap, but great service”

If you are traveling to Stowe on a budget but want similar amenities to the mega resort, look no further than this cozy and cute hotel that has its own backyard chairlift. From check-in to check-out, staff could not have been more personable or accommodating. Lift tickets can be purchased at the front desk. Families with small children will be very comfortable here. Disney channel, Nickelodeon, free wifi that always connected. Very spacious lounge/pool area with a massive television. Rooms are also roomy and very clean, though fixtures are dated. But you're not in Stowe to compare faucets and carpets! Hotel will drive you to the mountain and into town. Coffee and cookies are out for the grazing. The Fireside Tavern downstairs is a charming and convivial place to have a few evening pints - children welcome.

One star off for the truly disappointing (but free) continental breakfast. Just some stale muffins and bagels, juice, and cold cereal. I would have been so pleased to see some cold cuts, cheeses, and yoghurts. Even a boiled egg. You need protein to fuel up before a day of skiiing! We went into town for eggs and bagels instead.

If you are a budget traveler or a family with small children and you'd prefer a place that feels homey, avoid the megaresort up the road and stay here. We hope to be back soon!

“I'd pay more somewhere else”

We stayed here for a wedding and the hotel has not been recently renovated. The rooms felt old and stale. If it were not for the 2-night minimum we'd have moved to another location. Take a look at the room before you stay, if you're not particular, then this may work for you.

“Good for 1980s.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2010

We stayed for one night due to a wedding nearby. Stowe is popular area during winter, hence, if you are visiting you wouldn't really care about lodging since all the fun is outside. We stayed in a room with double beds. Room was outdated. My wife is a hotel snob because of many nuce hotels we stayed at during the honeymoon times of our marriage, so she was very critical of the room. Everything in the room reminded us of 1980s.
If you are there for one night, you should be ok and might even enjoy fuzzy picture on the wooden Zenith tv. Rooms need major renovation.

The front desk staff was very uncustomer friendly and indifferent to my wife's request to have us checked in earlier. There are polite ways to explain why we couldn't check in an hour earlier, but this Vermonster needed some customer service traning.

Not all rooms need renovation at this place. Our in-laws stayed at the larger suite that looked like a townhouse and it was more up to current standards.

Pick wisely and don't stay here, unless you are attending 1980s convention.

“Great staff, great stay”

Stayed here for a wedding. The room was very large for the price, and it was close to the mountain and the town. Staff was great.
