“Great location, nice rooms, good food, & great beer”

We stayed for two nights after having eaten here on previous trips to Stowe. The room was very pleasant, not exactly my decorating taste, but definitely authentic (you can sort of pretend you're actually at an English Inn without much imagination). However, our room here was nicer than the English Inns we've stayed in. Updated bathroom, plenty of space, comfy bed, you can control the thermostat, and even a tray for our wet boots/ski stuff so we weren't walking on wet carpet.

The staff was really pleasant and accomodating (from check-in to service). The breakfast that was included was really nice as well - lots of selections and it will fill you up for hours of skiiing. The first morning there was a bit of a delay on our breakfast service, which was not only acknowledged, but we were offered free drinks that night if we stopped in the bar.

Speaking of the restaurant bar - the food is good and there's a great beer selection. Our bartender the second night (Chris?) picked us some very nice Belgian style beers to enjoy. We normally don't eat at the places we stay, but this was the exception. When we are in Stowe we usually end up going here anyway so it was sort of convenient not to have to bundle up to go out for dinner.

It's in a good location within walking distance of many other places, and it's only a short drive to the mountain.

We were very pleased and would certainly stay here on our next trip. We've stayed at a few other places in the area and this was certainly the best so far. I mean, it's a ski town and this isn't a 5 star resort but you don't feel like you're in a ski dorm either and it's certainly cozier and quiter than some of the motels in the area.

“Great for a weekend away”

When we arrived I was immediately struck by how much this is like an old English Inn from the dark decor the uneven floors and slanted corridors upstairs. Our room was clean and well appointed although quite small. The decor is how you would imagine your English grandmother's house to be which was authentic if not exactly my chosen aesthetic. The whirlpool tub is wonderful and would be great after a days skiing. We went downstairs for the afternoon tea which was a bit skimpy. Only a plate of cookies that was not refilled. But the lobby is very comfortable and no one frowned as us sitting there for a long time reading and drinking tea. We had a delicious dinner at Mr Pickwicks. Everything was wonderful from the drinks to the dessert. They really nailed some English specialties. Service was little slow and our server was aggressive to another server in full view of all the diners which was not very nice to see. She had tried to move in on his table which is not a surprise as he was so slow. But the dinner was delicious and again very authentic decor.
We had breakfast in the morning which was a mixed bag. Its free if you stay in the INn which is great. My English breakfast was delicious and very authentic but my husband's eggs benedict were over cooked and the potatoes very badly reheated. He sent the whole thing back and got a bagel which was bit of a disappointment. BUt all in all a very comfortable, relaxing stay.

Room Tip: Ask for one with a whirlpool tub. We were in the front overlooking the road and the snow plows woke...

Having read some other reviews about the small size of some of the rooms and bathrooms, we were pleasantly surprised with our room; although, if we did not have a coupon, the rooms would not have been worth the full price. Food was very good, if not a bit expensive. However, we found the hospitality and professionalism to be a bit lacking. Our experience with the young lady at the front desk on check-in was fine. But when we went into the pub to have a bite to eat and a drink, it was a little different. The bartender was less than friendly, and our waitress knew very little about the beer or the menu and had to ask questions repeatedly. She should have been a little better trained. When having breakfast the next morning, our tea and coffee were lukewarm at best, so we asked if we could get them heated up a bit. Our waitperson, whom I believe was also the restaurant manager, was almost argumentative. We were told that the tea SHOULD be hot, and he acted as if he were personally insulted. The only correct response to this simple request should have been, "yes, I'll be happy to heat that up for you". The hallways in the main inn were very, very narrow, just so you know ahead of time. We also experienced the restaurant manager discussing business with one of his staff out in the middle of the sitting area where guests can sit by the fire and read, etc. We found this a bit unprofessional. We also experienced staff hanging around this same sitting area texting and whatever on their personal phones. All in all, too many more cons than pros in our opinion, so we can't recommend it.

“Despicable”

We arrived at the inn on Friday afternoon and were very pleasantly surprised. Loved our room and the inn. By the way, we are a mature couple (ages 49 and 50). On Saturday we went out and got back to our room late afternoon. About 20 minutes later we got a knock on the door saying they "needed to put in an air purifier" because they "got complaints earlier in the day of a smoke smell coming from this end of the hallway". We hadn't smelled anything. And oh, by the way, we don't smoke. We were a little taken aback about the abruptness of how this was done, but didn't think too much more about it, other than how unprofessional it seemed. So on Sunday when we checked out, imagine our surprise when we were slapped with a $250 smoking fine on my charge card. I explained to the girl at the front desk that we don't smoke and that the charge was unacceptable. She said there was nothing she could do (she was very pleasant by the way), and that neither the owner nor the manager would be on site all day. I asked her to call the manager on the phone, which she did. The manager did not have the courtesy to get on the phone with me, but said through the girl at the desk that there was nothing she would do about it and that it would have to be taken up with the owner when he came in. I was told he was on a plane and would be in the next day (Monday) and I would have to wait to speak to him then. We called the owner's cell phone and left a message as to our dissatisfaction and asked for a call back. I did not receive one. On Monday morning I called the owner's two numbers on his business card and left messages on both numbers. I then called the inn and spoke to the manager. She said she would not reverse anything and that it had to go through the owner. Now I was told he was on a plane TODAY and wouldn't be in until the NEXT day (Tuesday). I asked the manager who authorized the charge on my card. She said she did, so I said then she could reverse it. She said that it was not her policy to reverse a smoking fine. She said that "several people smelled smoke in our room". She even went on to say that "someone saw one of us smoking". She also said that "the room smelled like someone dumped a bottle of cologne in the room to cover up smoke smell". Funny, neither one of us wears cologne or perfume, and did I mention, we don't smoke. I asked her to call the owner and she refused. She was completely unprofessional from a hospitality standpoint, never mind the outright lies. She could not have cared less about listening to me. She actually told me there was no point in our continuing this conversation as there was nothing she was going to do to change things. This is customer service? I sincerely hope that the owner will do the right thing. Only then can I change this review, but it unfortunately won't change how badly this has tainted our opinion of this hotel and some of its staff.

This couple was charged the smoking fee because throughout the day many guests had complained that the smell of cigarette and pot smoke was coming from there room. This is a horrible review because it is false. These guests were rude upon checkout and extremely rude when we put the air purifier in the room. There was evidence of the paraphernalia, and images were taken for evidence however the Inne was kind, and didn't notify the police because we didn't want to ruin the couples stay. It's not the Inne fault that guests smoke in the room after signing a reg card that clearly states non smoking Inne.

“Cozy. Excellent stay.”

My husband and I stayed for two nights. Both were very quiet. Our room was more than adequate and comfortable. Very clean. Be sure to call if you plan to arrive late! Luckily for us, the owner was having dinner at the yummy restaurant attached so getting into our room took a few extra steps, but not many. Delicious wood fired pizza and a movie theater across the street (we walked). Excellent location.
