“Amazing Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

We stayed two nights in the Carriage House at Thanksgiving. We loved the rustic charm and wood burning fireplaces. The real story is the food - we had beef tenerloin for dinner, with whipped potatoes and halved brussel sprouts and pearl onions. Each bite was perfection. Breakfast was cooked to order and top quality. We enjoyed walking the trails and found Gracies, a restaurant a half mile away, perfect for casual fare. While it is true that Edson Hill Manor is in need of some udpating, it was clean and the food amazing. We enjoyed our stay very much.

“Beautiful Property but Pricey”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

We stayed in a room in one of the carriage houses on the Edson Hill property. It was a large rustic room, with a wood-burning stone fireplace. It was pleasant enough, though the lighting was deficient, the two armchairs were broken down and needed to be replaced, and two of the three back windows did not open properly, as they’d come out of their tracks. Our room obviously needed some renovation.
Be forewarned that the inn charges a 15% gratuity on top of the 10% Vermont accommodations tax, which boosts the stated room price by a hefty 25%. A gratuity should be something you freely add if you're happy with the service, not something extorted through fine print. Considering the mediocre state of our room (in need of repairs) and the lackluster service, I was not happy paying as much as we did.
On the positive side, the property itself is gorgeous, with lawns stepping down to a pretty pond. The restaurant is good, though a bit pricey, serving a prix fixe dinner for $40.
For x-country skiers the property has several loop trails, and there are stables with rental horses for the equestrian set.

“Overly priced accomodations”

We stayed three nights here and each night became worse. The cottage that we stayed in had paper-thin walls and we could hear people on BOTH sides of our room talking at normal voice level. The man next door kept us up with his snoring, the kids on the other side woke us up at 6 am with their arguing over towels. We could hear every word. We tried to move but could not. We tried to find another hotel but everyone was booked.

We also stayed in another guest room which was tiny and the bathroom was across the hall. The room was so hot that we had to open the window and open the door of the room into the main hall for the night to get a breeze. So our room was wide open for anyone walking by to see/enter, but we were so hot we didn't care. The bathroom was on the front side of the hotel but did not have a curtain on the window, so we had to shower with the light off so that we were not on display to the world.
While the grounds are lovely, rolling hills, and the appearance of the Inn is pleasing in a Vermont sort of way, there is not much else positive that I can say about our stay. Bags of garage were left by housekeeping on the front porch of the cottage two mornings running-I don't know why. Dead flowers in our room, water glasses left on the bedside table of our room from the previous guests (glad we didn't grab those accidentally in the night!), surly management.......Skip this stay and spend your $240 per night elsewhere.

Room Tip: If you still insist upon staying here....make sure that you get an end cottage or a room in the Inn...

“Skip the horseback riding and dinner”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

I have stayed at this Inn many times over the span of several years. In the past, I found the staff to be unfriendly but I didn't take the time to review the manor. This past October, I made reservations for dinner as well as the riding stable. We arrived for dinner to find we were the only patrons. This should have been my first red flag that something was wrong. The dining room was nice, the food decent, but the service was horrible. At $40.00 per person, I expected better. In the past I could overlook the bad service, because the Inn itself was nice. Seeing how we were treated at dinner, I decided to call and cancel our reservation at the riding stable. When I asked who I was speaking to, the person responded "you don't need to know". I could not believe my ears. I knew right then I made the right decision to cancel. Needless to say, we will not return to this Inn.
