“Nice hotel for a ski-weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for two nights while spending the weekend skiing at Killington. It's about a 15 minute drive from the ski resort.

The wood fireplace near the check-in desk looked very inviting! And, while we didn't eat the complementary breakfast, it smelled good and looked popular.

We stayed in a room on the second floor in building 3, probably about 200 yards from the building where check-in was. The room stayed nice and warm for us, which was crucial because the outside temperature dropped below 0F! The bathroom had its own heater as well. The beds were comfortable and I stayed cozy under the the duvets.

My only complaint was the bathroom. It had a mildew-y smell when we got there (which eventually went away), plus I had to keep adjusting the water temperature during my shower so it would stay hot enough.

We would be happy to do a repeat weekend at Killington and stay in this hotel again.

“Pricey but worth it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

Nice clean room, great make your own waffles at breakfast buffet. A little pricey at 150$ a night but worth it. Only (minor) complaint is some noise from heating system, though this is very common.

Well outside of downtown Rutland, where there have apparently been a lot of ski thefts, heard one account of a bus broken into and skiis stolen in downtown Rutland. This DID NOT happen at the Best Western.

“Very nice stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

This is our second trip to Vermont to visit Castleton for a college visit and decided to stay here. The rate was reasonable enough and we figured we would try out a different hotel than last time. They were busy because it had snowed all day and the skiers we out in full force.

The room was nice and it was clean. They did have the heat on, so the room was not freezing when we arrived, which was nice. We were in building 4, which is way in the back. One funky thing about the room is that it has the baseboard heat runs around the room, but they have the heads of the beds pushed against it sucking up most of the heat, which is not too smart. Not to mention the head of one bed is directly under a window, which is kinda weird.

We were on the second floor and the buildings have wooden walk ways (like a deck) to use. We must have been in the party building because there were about 15+ guys (all about 20 somethin')apparently on a ski trip making lots of noise. Early the next morning they trompped back and forth and up and down the decks beating on doors to wake each other up, most wearing their ski boots, which was just rude, inconsiderate and loud. This is not a direct reflection on the hotel and I only mention this so that you will know that the decks are right outside the windows that the beds are against and if you don't have quiet neighbors, you may not be happy.

We did not partake in the breakfast, so I can't tell you about that. All in all it was a nice stay.

Room Tip: While headed out of Rutland, it's up the hill, past Home Depot at the blinking light on the left...

“nice motel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

The rooms are in lodges set back from the road so it is very quiet. Not sure if the walls are thin or our neighbours were noisy but we had some noise from next door. The breakfast choice was good.

The one thing which would make this motel excellent would be the addition of an indoor pool and hot tub which would be great for the winter months.

I agree with you and fight every year to have an indoor pool built - it's just not in the plan for the hotel. However, our outdoor heated, salt-water pool is the BEST pool in the summer time that this area has to offer. Be sure to plan a trip back in the summer to take advantage of it. Thanks for staying with us! Coleen Lio, General Manager
