I booked here because the price was right. Mistake number one. I asked specifically for a non smoking room. I was given one that I realized immediately was a smoking room. The windows were open to let in air, but it didn't help much. It was also filthy. When I called the manager to complain, she said all the non smoking rooms were taken. So, why didn't you tell me you only had a smoking room? Where I come from, this is called deceptive practices. Where she comes from, it is apparently salesmanship. While my allergies always allow me to know if a room has been smoked in, I am not usually so aware of filth as i was here. The manager said that the room hadn't been rented in a long time (which I believe) because it had a jacuzzi. It did, but that wasn't the reason it hadn't been rented, I'll wager. It looked as though the kind of tenant it had had, for a long time, was someone living week to week, as in a welfare hotel. And noone cleaned there too much since. Now, that is just my impression. But on a whim, I checked out the closest hotel on the other side of the street. Yup, one of those. No daily rates. This is not the kind of neighborhood you want to be in on your vacation. It appears that the latest owners/managers are trying to renovate a hotel that is in very seedy condition. The manager did the right thing by me, and refunded my money, which I appreciate. See my review of the Econo Lodge, where I retreated, and felt better. Stay away unless you are desperate. If you want a nicer hotel in this chain, try the Comfort Inn Trolley Square in Rutland. Cost more, and worth it.
