“Group ski trip - worth the price....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

I planned a ski weekend and had stayed at the Ramada down the road in the past. Needless to say, I was pleased with the switch and will definitely stay at Red Roof Inn again. Not to say their weren't some minor issues, but for the price and convenient location (roughly 20 min to both Killington and Okemo), it was well worth it. Being a property manager myself, I tend to notice a lot of little things but also understand "setting the expectation".

Room appeared to be recently renovated, although not my particular decor, the room was clean, neat and spacious. 2nd floor rooms have vaulted high ceilings and have a more "suite" like feel and upgraded black appliances - very nice. Being the trip coordinator and having everything on my credit card, I would have expected to get the nicer room, but its just a weekend - I'll live! I was close to the dining area and amenities so I guess thats a premium. Bathroom exhaust vents need to be cleaned and towels could use a fabric softner or some Bounce - kinda like sandpaper!

Turn service was....confusing....one bed was made (the other had a bag on it so maybe they didn't want to touch it?) while the other was left untouched. Empty cups and trash weren't removed but towels were replaced with floor towels. Thought is was odd - they kinda just did a half turn but my guest and I werent too bothered.

Front desk (Nichole) was very knowledgeable and told us good place to eat (Table 24 - great restaurant), where to buy groceries and liquor, bars in downtown Rutland, etc. Early Sat morning front desk person not so much - couldn't point us to decent ski shop on way to Killington or give us directions.

Amenities - pool was heated, although the game room/pool area was very cold - you could feel the draft right through the windows surrounding the room. My group enjoyed the pool and the games (pool table, air hockey). Sauna was disappointing - doesn't really get hot enough to feel like a sauna and you could feel the draft....top was warm, bottom was cold. Didn't break a sweat after 30 minutes....so I gave up...and yes, it was maxed out on temp and time.

Parking is convenient and breakfast was decent - on Sunday one of the staff was making waffles ahead of time which was a great time saver - great idea. It a small room and gets crowded quick so it helped not to have everyone standing at the waffle station. Eggs were a bit runny and sausage meat could have been cooked just a bit more....but this is pretty standard for these buffet breakfast at most hotels. We all ate and there were no complaints. We are a pretty easy group!

The one thing I would have preferred is that my group was somewhat placed in the same area of the hotel or even connecting rooms if possible - I had 5 rooms that were split into almost 3 locations. We booked in advanced so I would have thought there was enough time to place us together but I'm not a hotel operations manager so what do I know?

Overall, very good stay and Red Roof will get my business again. Also have to give thansk to the Sales Manager who also gave us info for discount lift tickets which worked out great.

Room Tip: 2nd floor rooms - nice high vaulted ceilings with beams (at least in the 400's), newer appliance...

“Well worth it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

Stayed here for an over-night trip. Quick check-in, on my way to my within a few minutes. Lobby and common areas very clean. Room clean and maintain condition. Plenty of space in the room, came with mini refrig and coffee machine. Wife used pool, very satisfied. Breakfast room clean, food was fresh, standard menu offered by others. Recently stay across the street at another motel; twice the price and a very unhappy stay there. Will be going back to the Red Roof

Thank you Barry for your positive feedback. We really do work hard to provide the best possible lodging and breakfast. We could never manage a hotel without a great staff.. Please come back again soon.

We work hard to get and know as many guests as possible. I might recommend signing up Redicard... its free and for each time you stay at a Red Roof Inn you recieve points towards free lodging with Red Roof Inn.

“Comfortable and Clean Room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

We booked at the last minute to ski the area mountains as one of the few places on the East coast with snow between Christmas and New Years. We arrived late in the evening, and our room was ready, and was told they just turned on the heater so it would be warm. Our room was clean and comfortable. One of the few Red Roofs with free breakfast and a pool area. Beds were comfortable, too. The ride to Killington took about 30 minutes and Okemo about 40 minutes. This is a good alternative if you are trying to save a few dollars and don't mind not being slope side.

“A comfortable and average stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

A group of us stayed here for three nights in two rooms on a weekend ski trip getaway in late December 2011, and I personally found this to be average hotel.

During check-in, the receptionist on duty was not able to locate the second room's reservation that was booked trough hotels.com assigned us another room and told us that the second room was not booked at all and the hotel will charge hotels.com additional fees for the lack of information. My friend who got the reservation was shocked by the receptionist's attitude and was ready to dispute the charges with the website if there were to be additional charges. I was also surprised by hot non-affordable the hotel was as the rate we had was over 100 a night when I heard the receptionists informing other guests that they have rates for 80 a night. So I would advise calling the hotel to check if any cheaper rate was available instead of plainly relying on a third party site.

The room was spacious (we had a room on the ground floor and one on the second, and the one on the second floor was 'bigger' as the high sloping ceilings gave it an airier feel) and the decor, despite dated, was still bearable for me. The blankets were too thin but that was solved when we blasted the heater on. The queen beds each came with three pillows and were firm and comfortable.

The bathroom was very bright and clean and I suspected that they probably renovated those recently. There were ample shampoos in individual sachets and soaps. Three sets of bath towels were also provided. Regular features like an ice machine and laundry on site were also available. The indoor pool was heated but we still felt it to be abit too chilly. It looks bigger on photos but I'll say it can fit in 10 guests before one feels uneasy.

Free wifi was provided in our room and connection was consistent and fast. The breakfast was simple and the waffles were delicious. however, despite constant walking around by staff in the breakfast area in the morning, the waffle mix dispenser that had ran out of the waffle mix remained unfilled for 20 minutes before a guest told the staff and they promptly re-filled the dispenser. Scrambled eggs were very bad and we were shocked that there can actually be a bad scrambled eggs at all.

There is a 24-hour Denny's directly next to the hotel if you want to grab other foods.

location wise, it took us around 30 minutes to drive to Killington town for the restaurants and another 10 more minutes if you want to reach Snow Shed at the ski resort.

Room Tip: you may want to stay on second floor for a higher ceiling, avoid rooms starting with '4' as...

Thank you for tripadvisor member for staying with us. My apologies for the small confusion on check in. Occassionally there is a miscommunication between third party websites and the hotels that are booked. Fortunately we have an accuracy rating of more than 99%. I always encourage our guests to call the hotel directly even when you book through third party websites. As you mentioned in your feedback; more often then not the hotel with either match or beat a posted rates online. Just make sure that you do so more than 24 hours prior to arrival. As a hotel that is located 18 miles from Killington and 12 miles from Pico we have some of the lowest rates in the area.

I always inform my staff of the feedback that we recieve on Tripadvisor. We have a very hard working local staff who do an amazing job in all aspects of this industry from managers, to front desk, to housekeepers and maintenance. I am glad you appreciated our updates to the rooms.
We are continuing to do updates through out the hotel through the winter and into the spring.
Thank you again. Please come back again soon.
