“This place was awesome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2010

I stayed at this B&B every New Year's week for years. Each stay was over-the-top amazing and the hospitality was top-notch. Never thought to write a review before, but just came across the absurd review from the guy "snowdreamer" on this site. I remeber this obnoxious guy and to tell you the truth its a wonder he wasn't asked to leave and go stay somewhere else.

I just feel compelled to let other travelers know that the Chocolate Truffle was an incredibly great place. It was sold recently, but this "Snowdreamer guy is on crack. He called about 30 minutes before arriving deperate for a room (on a holiday weekend) and was lucky to get the one room that was left. A full breakfast is always served, bt he was sooooo picky about every little dietary restriction he couln't eat any of the choices included. I remeber sitting at the breakfast table shocked at his rude and selfish requests. If you ask me, an upcharge of $10 to accommodate the specialized ingredients was a generous deal! And there was always a huge hot pot of cocoa and coffee AND tea in the breakfast room apre ski. I have no idea what he's talking about. Especially the shared bath part. I've stayed in that room before and its beautifully appointed and has the best view. Yes, it has a shared bath, but its a 110 year old Victorian house - what are you expecting??? This guy was a miserable guy from the momnet he walked in. I applaud the owner for putting up with him at all.

For my review, I say it was one of the most charming, delightful, and friendly places Ive every stayed. The website was extensive and fully descriptive, and the dogs were completely wonderful, too. As any dog-lover knows, if a shepherd (which rarely barks) can't stop barking at someone - y'all better think its the human - not the dog - that is the problem. That beautiful dog was a sweetheart and probably know this guy was trouble. : )

“Chocolate Truffle B&B stay was not as advertised!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 March 2008

I stayed here for the new year to go skiing at the Killington slopes but also expected a relaxing and quiet stay to rest from the skiing activities. Unfortunately it wasn't relaxing or quiet. I made arrangements with the owner to stay during the weekend of the new year before arrival. However, there were many things - basic things - that were falsely advertised on the website (which is strangely and coincidentally not working now!) and not disclosed by the owner (Wendi Corbin) when i booked the room and later discovered upon arrival, such as:

1. i didn't have my own private bath,

2. i couldn't pay for the room using any credit card, i had to pay cash.

3. i had to pay cash up front upon my arrival.

4. breakfast was NOT free or included in my room rate - if i wanted breakfast i had to pay $10-$15 extra up front with my room stay. there were also no free afternoon snacks or hot drinks available after coming back from the mountain as advertised unless i paid extra for it. I ate one chocolate here upon arrival, and that was all I got.

5. at the end of my stay, i asked for a room check out receipt and i did not receive it. Instead, the owner, Wendi Corbin, went out to the store during check out hours (before 11 am) when i came downstairs to check out. when i emailed and called to get a receipt sent to me via mail after i returned back home, my requests were ignored.

6. there were other guests: An elderly couple staying at Chocolate Truffle B&B ordered breakfast with their room stay and the owner cooked it herself in a home kitchen, not fit for commercial standards, and sat with them while they ate. She did not eat, and kept talking while they listened. The couple appeared uncomfortable.

7. A german shepherd resides there and runs about, barking very very loudly and very often, disrupting sleep and any sort of peace you would expect. The owner makes no attempt to calm the dog down.

8. the room was facing the street and the house has thin windows so it was a bit drafty and noisy at night (but also consider that this was new years weekend).

Other than the owner's irresponsible business practices and general lack of common sense, the place itself was well taken care of, and very clean. The room I had was spacious, adequately warm in a chilly january, and there were extra blankets provided. The furnishings were a mix of antique and new. The owner made efforts to accommodate me and the other guests, but sub-par business practices make this place anything but a professional establishment. I would not recommend this bed and breakfast inn to anyone and I certainly would not give this place my business nor stay here again.

  • Liked — the cleanliness
  • Disliked — the poor business practices of the owner at this establishment
