“B&B in a breath-taking country setting!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

I booked the Mountain View room in late September. I was hoping to see the beautiful Fall foliage, but I came weeks short of this spectacle. However, the view from the room didn't disappoint.

You can't go wrong with the location of this B&B. It's only minutes from Montpelier's capitol building, restaurants, and "city" walking. It is very close to highways leading to other cities for sight-seeing. I strongly suggest after a day's adventure to make your way back early since it does get very dark to navigate to the inn.

Ann-Marie and Joe Dixon (owners) were very accommodating. They were congenial and eager to make suggestions for eateries/sight-seeing ideas. I enjoyed pleasant conversations over breakfasts not to mention Joe's organic cuisine. I would definitely go back and stay here again.

Room Tip: The Mountain View room is your best bet if you don't like sharing a bathroom. It has its own pr...

“A FANTASTIC GETAWAY!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2011

I can't thank the Dixons enough for the "right at home" treatment I received upon entering their driveway. As this being my first "B & B" experience, I will DEFINATELY visit again. I had the full attention of the Dixons (I was the only guest during my mid-week stay) and they gave me great ideas for sightseeing and exploring the are. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that my breakfasts would be organic! Yipee!!! This was right up my alley.

If you ever heard or read anything negative about High Hill Inn, DO NOT BELIEVE IT FOR ONE SECOND! Any negative review you've read was possibly posted by some competitor trying to turn away business from this glorious place. By the way, I was delighted to spot a family of deer grazing in the wee hours of the morning (just before dawn) below my window (lovely view of the mountains). I also had the pleasure of praying by the pond (a short, steep walk away from the Inn).

This place has by far the most therapeutic natural scenery I've ever viewed. You owe it to yourself. And yes, the prices are EXTREMELY reasonable. Just GO, GO, GO and be enchanted.

Respectfully,

E. Sarge

Room Tip: Go for the rooms with the mountain view!

“You won't want to leave!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

This is an affordable get away from the typical city establishment. It is located on a large plot of land with a pond and a few horses. The owners of the High Hill Inn are very amicable and hospitable. Our hosts provided us with lots of sightseeing ideas based on our interests two weeks before our stay was scheduled. Even though all their rooms were full for the weekend, they provided us a new space that they had never before rented. The room is a refinished attic apartment with great day lighting and ample space. It is very private with an enclosed stairway leading up to the space. The variable slanted ceilings have a Victorian feel with a great modern look. The bathroom has a skylight with a nice living room space for TV/movie watching. A desk is built into the wall with an armoire and dresser provided. Staying here for a week or more would be comfortable! The bed is a step down from the main floor. There is a small balcony that looks out onto the property. It is an excellent view at night with stars and city lights both visible. They do have a hot tub. Breakfast was great; there was plenty of food provided. People with food allergies will be catered to at this establishment! If you forget to mention it, your food will be remade! No quesitons asked!! We were very happy with our stay in this Bed and Breakfast. We look forward to our next trip! If you have any other questions feel free to e-mail.

Room Tip: The finished attic room has a small balcony and LOTS of space. The location is remote enough that...

“Great view nice people”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2011

I concur with some of the other reviews that High Hill is quite isolated and maybe finding it in the dark could prove tricky. But the views first thing in the morning as you look out over the fall foliage were quite stunning and was a great way to start the day.

Joe and Ann-Marie were incredibly friendly and very interesting people. They were extremely helpful in making recommendations and were kind enough to make reservations for us in the evening. They were to keen to ensure that you had everything that you wanted.

I would say that it was reasonable value for money and that Montpelier is worth a (short) stop on any trip as it is a very quaint place. The place is a short drive from town but pretty straight forward because of the size of the town.

The one quirk that I found was that the guest room was essentially one of there children's rooms as the storage space was full of their items and it could be that the shared bathroom may not prove ideal for some.

I would certainly choose to stay here again because of its stunning views and tranquility.

“An enjoyable stay in a country setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

Joe and Ann-Marie, the owners of the fine B & B have just the right personalities for this very nice property. They immediately welcome you as though you were family and do everything to make you comfortable without being burdensome. The rooms are beautifully decorated, homey, and the bed was very comfortable. Don't be mislead (as I was initially) because it is located "out of the city". Actually it is only about 2.5 miles from the city on easily accessible roads. The rural Vermont setting is part of the great atmosphere of this place. It is a real gem.
