My hiking partner and I booked 2 rooms for our 2nd to last night on the Long Trail. We called the Inn as soon as we hiked to Jay Pass and Gary drove up to the Pass to pick us up, saved us a 2 mile walk to the Inn (the next morning he brought us back to the Pass after a terrific breakfast). We looked forward to staying in a nice place with showers and comfortable beds. We were not disappointed. My rooom was spectacularly decked out in all manor of Victorian decor. After settling into our rooms and cleaning up, we spent some of the afternoon sitting on the back deck admiring the view ofthe top of Jay Peak and writing in our journals. Gary and sue allowed us to set up our tents in the large backyard to dry them out. As it turned out, we were the only guests that evening, the previous 4 guests had checked out that morning, so Gary, Sue and MaryJane cooked dinner exclusively for us that night. The hosts spent a lot of time with us and made us feel very much at home - just what uyou wnat from a B&B. Dinner was wonderful, cooked and presented as it should be in a first class restaurant. We hated to see the evening end, but we went to our rooms and and slept very well despite the ocassional truck noise from the road - Jay Peak is doing major construction so there have been a lot of construction vehicles in the area this summer. The service, the food and our rooms were great. It's easy to see that they are doing renovations to some parts of the building, there are some improvements underway and there are some rough edges but the main public rooms are pristine, and again, loaded with Victorian decorations. We were entertained by the 2 dogs which were allowed out in the dining area after we indicated that we did not mind. I think otherwise the dogs are confined to a seoarate area of the building.
