This was our second stay at this property, and both times were comfortable. This stay was for two nights and we brought our 4 year old lab mix with us. The room was clean and cozy. I was only a little concerned when the desk clerk was checking us in and said to steer clear of the back areas of the hotel because of possible "dumpster divers". He meant that there have been bears spotted getting into the dumpster areas! I was kind of hoping we might see one, but didn't . Our best friend was very comfortable, as were we, and we all settled in for a short and rainy vacation. This was the first time visiting Vermont, where it rained almost non-stop for three days. We will probably be back next year, and most likely will stay here, because of the friendly staff, comfortable room, and great value for the money.

I stayed at this hotel about 5 years ago while on a ski trip with friends and family. It was a value hotel then and still is today. Unfortunately, management hasn’t put much money into keeping the building up over the last 5 years. Our view out the back showed the roof eaves rotting and sagging and very few noticeable improvements inside since my previous visit. All we needed was a place to crash over night and we were not disappointed with the accommodations for the price we paid. The bathroom and bedding were clean but the whole place is getting dated and needs remodeling. It’s still a good ski/crash pad location for the price but won’t be for much longer if they don’t put some money in the place soon. The hotel sits alone about 5 miles up the mountain from Rutland.

Went with "the girls" for a ski get-a-way and had a great time. We had 3 rooms between us and all 3 wore spacious, clean and bright. The staff went out of their way to group our rooms together and make sure we had everything we needed. We loved the fireplace and the feeling we had a cozy living room to gather in. We had called around and found they had the best value considering price, location and accommodations - we made the right choice! when we do these "the Girls " get always we have to consider everyone’s budget and sometimes that means a shorter stay - here we got such a good deal we wore able to make it a long four day weekend. One of the girls has an elderly pet that she does not like to leave and she was welcome to bring her baby with her - very pet friendly :) We are all ready talking of going again - maybe in the summer or the fall.

Stayed at lodge for a ski trip. Spent two nights. Picked this property because they let us bring our cat (at a charge of $12 PER DAY + tax). We knew about the pet charge and seasonal tax, but not about the other hidden charges. If you have a safe in your room (we did NOT ask for a room with a safe) you will be charged $1.00 a day + tax. FYI: there is a State tax, Other tax and "Miscellaneous" charge/tax(?) applied to every single charge, hidden or not. There is also a hidden DAILY Service/Gratuity charge as well (On the fabulous service! AND is taxed of course!). What a joke! Customer service oriented they are not. We checked-out on Christmas day due to weather and the employee at the front desk was not too happy. He told us to be out by 10 am because he "had Christmas too." Check-out is normally 10:30. Decor is much like you would experience at a gasthouse in Austria or Germany. Rooms dated, but clean. They need new blankets because there are suspicious stains all over them. Good place to drop your skis and rest your head, nothing more. "Hot tub" fits maybe 4 people and was covered with grit. We didn't utilize the hot tub. The continental breaksfast was limited at best with one tub of margarine and one jar of grape jelly to be shared by all ...with one communal knife. Coffee was drinkable. Lastly, there is a community computer w/Internet. Nice amenity, but monopolized by unsupervised children who abuse the privilege. Bottom line: My husband and I will not be staying there again. We'll hire a pet sitter.

  • Liked — Proximity to ski resorts
  • Disliked — The blankets and continental breakfast

Management response from Mendon, owner
(Management representative)
1 Apr 2009
There is a 9% Sales Tax and a 6% Resort Fee only. We run the SafeMark safe guarantee program. At Check-in we explain the program to the guest and ask for their acceptance and initials. Any time during their stay or after they can request a credit for the $1.00plus tax fee. This customer brought a cat, we charge $12.00 per day for animals, it is listed on our ChoiceHotels web page, there is a sign at the front desk and it is listed in our Guest Room Directories. There are no charges. This reservation was made via CRS. We are a 2 Diamond AAA Property.
From Choice Webpage:
Pet accommodation: 10.00/day. Limit: 2 pets Pet Policy: Credit card required with pet stay. No dogs to be left in room unattended. Front desk hours: 7am-11pm (18 Apr-26 Nov.), 24 hours for the remainder of the year. If arriving outside of these hours, please use courtesy phone at front desk. Please verify hotel address with guest. a 6% Resort Fee is added between December 15 and March 25 and between September 15 and October 25.
Our decoration is country as we are a Ski Lodge. These people complained about everything during their stay – the Front Desk Staff was stand offish whenever they saw this couple coming. I believe part of the problem was they checked out early 9less then 24hrs notice) during Christmas and did not get a refund (we were at 14 day clx).

My wife and I just spent the last three weeks on a road trip staying in a total of 15 different hotesl/motels. I rate this 13th lowest out of those 15 as it is worn, slightly dirty, and has the most disinterested front desk clerk we met. Also we were charged 10% more than quoted by Travelocity when we made the reservation.

That said, for one night on our way to somewhere else it was ok.
