My mother and I stayed at the Manchester Highlands over a long weekend. Our family frequently visits the Manchester area, and we usually rent a property. So my mother and I were a bit concerned about finding a place where we would feel as relaxed and as much at home as we typically are when in Vermont. We could not have been happier with our accommodations.
Our welcome was warm and we immediately felt at ease. The old Victorian property is lovely and we were very pleased with our room. We stayed in the Turret room, with a fantastic view of the valley and the mountain. The windows were large and let in lots of natural light. The bed was comfortable and warm, and there were extra quilts in the closet for the chillier nights. The room was spacious and there was plenty of space for all of our gear. The water pressure in the bathroom was great and we had no trouble getting hot water. The decor and furniture in the house look and feel "period" - they fit with the style of the house without being shabby or unkempt. We found everything was tidy, clean, and comfortable.
We looked forward to our breakfast every morning. Mr. Didier served the best eggs benedict and blueberry pancakes that we had ever had. There was plenty of delicious coffee and tea and homemade jams. More than worth getting up for!
I can't say enough nice things about our host and hostess and their children. They were a delight to spend time with. They offered great suggestions about the area, including about where to find the best sledding, and were even kind enough to lend us some sleds. They were helpful without being invasive, and more than anything else were responsible for creating the warm, casual, homey feel - which was exactly what we were looking for.
We look forward to visiting the Manchester Highlands again, and recommend it highly to others.
