“Better and Better”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We just completed another great ski weekend at the North Shire Lodge & Pub . Arrived Friday and enjoyed a pleasant evening of conversation with Tim and Kerry in the pub.
The rooms now have new flat screen HD TV's with DVD players . Of course the spacious rooms are as clean and comfortable as ever.
Because of some rain Friday , we decided not to ski Saturday, and took our time to a delicious complimentary hot homemade egg breakfast. It was as good as any breakfast we ever had ( the freshly made pancake and fresh fruit breakfast we received Sunday morning included the best pancakes ever) . We took a 30 minute drive to the Vermont Country store, and did a stop in Manchester on the way back .
Saturday night we had dinner right at the North shire pub on the premises , and once again the food was excellent ( and a great value) .

On Sunday the weekend wrapped up with a beautiful morning of skiing at Bromley . We have been guests at the North Shire for many years and have enjoyed each trip.

Can't wait to get back .

We stayed at the North Shire Lodge again this week. I can't say enough about this place. As far as what you get for your money this is the best place to stay in the area hands down. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are spotless with HD widescreen TVs as an added plus. To top that off they now offer a full breakfast and the Pub is the "cherry on the top." It is so nice to be able to enjoy an amazing meal right where you are staying at the end of the drive. The only downside was that we were only able to stay one night this time. We are looking forward to the next time we can visit. Kudos to Tim and Kerry for putting so much into the lodge that makes it the GEM it is!! My Husband and I wish them continued success. They surely deserve it! Thank you both!!!!!

“Love it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

This was my second time at North Shire over New Years Eve weekend (we came last year as well). Not to beat a dead horse, but Tim and Kerry are wonderful hosts. They are so warm and accomodating, you definitely get the feeling that you are a guest in their homes.

The rooms are very cozy and I love that they have a HD TV in there. I also really like the fact that they have a DVD library, its nice to just pick up a movie and watch it in the room!

Also, when we stay at North Shire we make it a point to eat at the pub, it is very yummy and very reasonably priced. My personal favorite is the pub burger (so good!!). The cheese plates are wonderful and another favorite. This year they started offering a full breakfast as well which is just another bonus of staying here.

Tim and Kerry work their tails off to make this place run as smoothly run and wonderfully as it does-- and it is very much reflected in the quality of service you receive when staying here!

Room Tip: Pick a cabin with a bigger number (i.e. - 7 versus 1) since it is closer to the pub! Probably doesnt...

“ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

I guess my expectations were a little too high, given the wild reviews this place gets. The location is nice, although you must drive pretty much everywhere. In winter, there really aren't common areas other than the pub. The rooms are simple although reasonably clean.

The breakfast was very good on some days and ok on others. You get one plate of whatever there is. Other than that, there are cereals, milk, and orange juice. All in all, I found the 150 dollars per night a little too much, but then again I don't have much to compare it too in Manchester.

Thank you so much for your review, we definitely enjoyed having the 5 of you stay with us in rooms 14 and 15 over the New Year’s Holiday. We’ve never actually had a room rate of $150 per night (yet), not even during our busiest season. Your room rate was $129 per night. Most folks find that is quite a value considering our scenic location, full breakfast included and served to you in our pub, as well as the pub to enjoy in the evenings. During winter, our rates range from $99 - $139 per night, and always include breakfast served to you individually in our Pub. You can find an even better value by booking a ski package with us for Bromley or Stratton Mountains, and we still include breakfast with that!!

Sorry our Pub was full for dinner reservations when you wanted to eat after your arrival. Maybe next time you can enjoy dinner there. I did thoroughly enjoy serving the 2 men of the group single malt scotch at the bar on New Year’s Eve. We offered a great 4 course meal that night for only $25 per person limited to a select number of guests to make sure that everyone can have a relaxing enjoyable evening. The Pub was full for dinner reservations that night also!

We’re a fairly small lodging property of 14 rooms run by just us two innkeepers who are thoroughly in love and married now over 30 years, with our awesome housekeeper Tina who has been with us for 10 years. Our Pub and lobby are the only common areas available to our guests, except during the warmer months when we have nearly 7 acres and an outdoor pool to enjoy.

Yes, it is true that in rural Vermont you pretty much have to drive everywhere you want to go. You inquired about train and taxi service in the area, but I’m afraid that isn’t generally available, not like you are used to in New York City for sure.

Our variety of breakfast selections may be limited in that we are not a full service breakfast restaurant. Selections vary each day to include various delicious egg dishes, several varieties of pancakes, soufflés, frittatas, French toast, Vermont artisan meats, fresh fruit, home baked breads, other fresh baked goods and more. We post the next day’s breakfast selection and guests sign up if they decide to come in for it. Our portions are pretty large, so we find that people really don’t ask for a second plate, but we’re happy to accommodate you if you just ask. As an option, there are also some great breakfast restaurants available in town just in case folks in the group each want to have something different that morning. Our breakfasts are great for guests who want to save a little time and money while enjoying a breakfast that really can’t be purchased at a local restaurant. The mountain view in the morning is a great extra while enjoying your breakfast. The longer you stay with us, the more opportunity you will have to enjoy a different creation each day. It’s a great value and an effort that we put quite a lot of time, effort and expense in to. We love doing it for our guests!

Our location is our absolute best asset and our guests love it. We are close to the center of town yet have amazing views of Battenkill Valley along with the Green and Taconic Mountains. We would not trade our location for the World!

We are two innkeepers who love our business and love serving our guests. We have a huge number of repeat guests who know that they can always expect a good stay with us. We take pride in making sure that your room is not only reasonably clean, but immaculately clean.

Thanks for staying with us - you were a great family to have here. Hope to see you again. We have amazing guests, some of which have been coming here for over 25 years and many more who have been our guests since our arrival here over 12 years ago. Thanks to all of our amazing repeat guests! See you all soon!

“Great New Year's Weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

This was our second stay at The North Shire Lodge, and it definitely won't be our last. My wife and I found everything to be "Above and beyond" expectations. We don't eat large breakfasts, so Kerry suggested english muffins to bring back to our room. One evening we ordered from the pub menu, and found the food to be excellent and reasonably priced. Since the pub is only open to guests, it was never crowded, and seemed more like a place for friends to get together. Tim and Kerry were great conversationalists, and made us feel more like friends than just 'hotel guests'.
We spent New Year's Eve at the pub with an excellent dinner from a special menu. I don't know how Kerry and Tim are able to do everything they do to make their guests so comfortable.

Clean room, great views, comfortable beds, large HD tv's with DVD player's (wide variety of free DVD's to borrow), great food and drink in a friendly atmosphere. What could be better?

Thank you for your kind review! We truly enjoyed having you stay with us again and look forward to next time. New Years Eve was quite a busy time in our Pub, and we think everyone enjoyed their evening. Anybody out there thinking of eating in our Pub next New Years Eve, be sure to reserve early!
