“Great time had by all!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

Lawrence and his son were exceptional hosts. It was a very warm atmosphere and it was also child friendly. After skiing we sat by the fireplace and played games. After dinner we were served dessert in front of the fire. There was a small pub, hot tub, and pool table. The breakfasts, which were included, were amazing. Homemade pancakes and waffles, etc. We had the condo on the top floor which was spacious and comfortable for two families.

“A perfect stay and a perfect wedding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

We attended a wedding for our niece and were delighted with the the staff, accommodations, and service. The food was wonderful, and we felt like the staff went out of their way to make us feel special. The facility and grounds are impeccably maintained, and the setting could not have been more perfect. Our sincere thanks to Laurence and his excellent staff.

Room Tip: We really liked room 11. It's large and has a hot tub. But if traveling with a larger group and...

After reading all the wonderful reviews on Trip Advisor, we were excited to be attending a wedding at the Inn. To say that we were disappointed is an understatement. We arrived at Echo Lake Inn at about 7 pm. Dinner service was not available and we were not apprised of any nearby options. Although the wedding couple ordered some cold cuts which were served in the basement, many attendees were not advised of this.
We were pointed to the bar where a friendly employee served us drinks. We were advised that there was an 18% service charge on alcohol but the menu did not designate the price of standard cocktails, beer or wine. At the end of our adventure, guests bills for drinks varied wildly.
The inn itself was shabby and seemed unkempt. A plastic bag filled with dicarded tissues remained down the hall from our room during our entire stay. Our room was tiny- certainly not the deluxe accomodation we paid over $200 a night for. Although we were charged an 18% service fee on top of this, a dirty envelope on the dresser reminded us that housekeeping staff relied on our tips for income and were paid very little. There was soap in our bathroom along with a single bottle of shampoo -no lotion, conditioner or other products. Towels were tiny and although they were clean were not plentiful nor were they straightened when the room was cleaned.
During the course of the night I had an allergic reaction to something in the room(not the fault of the Inn). When I went to open the window-I discovered it was purposely sealed shut. It is beyond comprehension that one could not open a window in a country inn to allow fresh air and a cool breeze to enter.
There were many instances where the Innkeeper showed he valued efficiency over guests comfort or feelings. In fairness there were also instances where wedding guests must have disturbed others staying at the Inn. At the end of the day we had an amazing time at the wedding itself and some great stories to share about our experiences at the Echo Lake Inn.

We are pleased that this guest had an amazing time at the wedding at our inn but sorry she felt she was disappointed with parts of her stay. The bride’s glowing review, from the same weekend, is below and is more indicative of what the inn represents. I’m not sure what she expected for $199 per night during the ‘Fall Foliage Season’, but if she wanted to stay at a 5 star inn, there is one about an hour away and the rates range from $1300 to $3400 per night. Our rates include full country breakfast and we DO NOT EVER charge a service fee on the room rate. You can charge incidentals to your room and gratuity will be added for that item unless you leave a cash gratuity. The “dirty” envelope for housekeeping is ivory in color and in script says “For your housekeeper”…pretty standard. I should point out that the wedding guests had exclusive use of the dining facilities and events were planned by the wedding host. I’m sorry she wasn’t invited to the rehearsal dinner, but she was informed of other options off property at check in. Drink prices at the inn do vary depending on what you order, ie Kettle One is more than a well pour and imported beers are more than domestic...again, pretty standard. And finally, we try to be as green as possible. Every bathroom has a sign informing the guests about towels. If you leave them on the floor, we will replace them with neatly folded fresh towels. If you hang them up, this means you wish to reuse them. Our towels aren’t tiny but are the typical size and comfort of most mid priced hotels. Her window was not sealed but they are sealed from November to March for our guest’s comfort as the sign on the window states. The inn was built in 1840 and we like to keep the drafts out in Vermont’s cold winters. We have a great staff and try to please all our guests. Sorry we didn’t please this one on all counts.

“The staff at Echo Lake Inn made our wedding day Amazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2011 via mobile

We picked Echo Lake Inn for our wedding because we loved the grounds, the history of the inn, the beautiful surroundings and because our guests could all stay there. The innkeeper Laurence and his staff were amazing. Whatever we needed they were able to accommodate, you can tell they really love hosting weddings.

The wedding planner Ruxanna was the main contact person before the wedding. She helped answer all my questions, gave us advice and suggestions and make sure the day was all planned out. Our guest commented on how beautiful, organized and unique the wedding was- that truly is a testamet to Laurance and his staff.

Two weeks before our wedding hurricane Irene hit Vermont. The Inn had some flooding and quite a bit of damage to the grounds. You would never have known it on our wedding day! The entire Inn staff worked hard to clean up the mess from the flood so that we would still have the wedding we imagined. I know if we had chosen to get married at a different venue they would not have worked so hard to get things back to normal and probably would have canceled on us.

We are SO HAPPY we went with Echo Lake Inn, it was exactly the wedding we hoped for.

“Wonderful place to step back in time and yet keep in touch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 July 2011

The Echo Lake Inn is a delightfully restored inn keeping the flavor of its heritage and offering the amenities demanded by today's travelers. Our brief holiday in New England for a 4th of July get away included a trip to Ludlow. Innkeeper Laurence Jeffery and his staff offer a not to be missed level of service with spacious rooms of varying configurations . A very comfortable bed and the available wireless internet service were much appreciated. Add to that a delightful dinner in the dining room and evening nightcap on the front porch. An awesome place for a getaway and excursion to the Vermont countryside with opportunities for fishing, kayaking and boating on Echo Lake, a fall foilage trip and winter sking destination.

Room Tip: Ask the staff for a room appropriate to your needs, they have family rooms and/or condo type.
