I consider myself a well traveled "ski bum" who has made treks out west but more commonly up and down the east coast. Needless to say, Killington is always a destination a few times every season. We've definitely stayed in our share of dumps as well as 5-star locations. This time, looking to travel to Killington over Presidents' Weekend, we weren't going to be picky. That said, we used Killington's new "snow blind" booking system (similar to priceline's name-your-own-price feature) and after a little research, booked what was called the Highridge "Motel Room" (also reviewed below). The result was a BARGAIN for the location & peak-weekend! The motel rooms looks to be the result of the condo buildings having a little left over apartment-like space in various buildings. It is as advertised: very small room (about the size of a dorm room) with a big closet, LCD TV w/ DVD, very large bathroom and queen size bed. All is relatively clean, albeit a bit dated. There is parking right outside and ski storage. WiFi, which was free, was not the best -- I had a very low signal and had not great service. The router was obviously not in our building and so was not a well thoughout perk.
The shuttle, which picks up right outside and ran about every 15 minutes, was very convenient, dropping us off right at Snowshed. My ONE gripe relates to the Highridge complex being labeled as having a "ski home" trail. When we checked in, I specifically asked the front desk about the ski home trail. I was told it was very accessible, had "a few flat spots" and was not recommended for snowboarders. In actuality, having "skied" it on our first day out, it is NOT RECOMMENDED unless you have telemark/AT skis and are looking for a trek. The trail is about 1-2 miles long with about 90% being uphill. While we certainly earned the cold beer we treated ourselves to, we would have much preferred to catch the shuttle back.
We also had no cleaning service ANY of the days/nights we were there. Don't know if this is an oversight or it's how these condos operate.
All in all, the highridge motel room(s) are a great bargain made even better by booking "blind". We would definitely stay here again for a low frills, very convenient trip to Killington!
