My wife and I were looking to book a nice weekend getaway in Killington for our wedding anniversary and used the internet to search for a nice resort. We found some "beautiful" pictures and descriptions on the Summit Lodge's website. We went there with great expectations , especially with the Summit's prices, high, but thats ok if its really nice, remember the old saying - You get What You Pay For? Well, NOT This Time!! We arrived to find a not very well plowed, maintained road, luckily we had 4 wheel drive to get up the drive way. The gentleman at the front desk was nice and helpful, i didnt know at the time that he would be the "only" nice employee there. We went to our room, it was ok, very warm inside, excessively warm and the heat was off. There was mold in the bathroomt ,the shower was a joke, temperature controls for the water did not work to good and the shower itself was narrow and small and the shower head was about 5' high, not good if your over 6' tall. The TV in the room was the size of my computer screen, but from reading past reviews I was a lucky one, my remote did work for the TV. The bed was not very comfortable and the decor was ok, but it hasnt been updated in years. No amenities like a coffee pot in the room or a small fridge. The staff outside of the desk clerk was RUDE and did not treat you like a guest, but instead treated you like you were a bother and couldnt wait to get rid of you and that was if they didnt ignore you totally like some staff did. We watched the staff just be rude with a couple of large groups that were staying there, it was like they were following them around, I could only imagine what would happen if there had been lots of children there. The dogs, were ok, they definately have carte blanche at this hotel, and they arent even a paying CUSTOMER like we were. The staff seemed to have to cater to the dogs, i love dogs, but again, we are the customer here and i have a receipt to prove it. The breakfast is held in a cute bright sun room, the only picture that really properly depicted the websites photo's. The hotel had some young waiter/ waitress's that didnt even speak any english and didnt get any of our orders or the guest's sitting near us orders correctly. So with this in mind, I didnt even want to try dinner there, so we went down to the Grist Mill, which is owned by the same owners. Night and Day when we went for lunch and dinner there. Why you ask? All the employees that we came in contact with were pleasant, helpful, and made our visit very special, down right spoiled us, the food was great and received it as ordered. The hotel should receive customer service lessons from the restaurant employees. Back to the hotel, I wish i could have seen The Summit Lodge back in the day when it had first opened up, because you can see that at one point it HAD been a beautiful hotel, its just unfortunately it has been allowed to decline for many years. The hot tub, was nice until we saw things floating in the water, the outside pool was ok, it was suppose to be 95 degrees but was definately on the cooler side. The fireplaces were all very nice and they did have logs continually burning which was nice. I would never go back to the Summit Lodge nor would I recommend anyone to go there. As a customer, you expect alot better for this price , and the services received were more in line for a basic motel than a "RESORT". When you go somewhere whether it is a hotel, a restaurant, anything where you are a customer there are some basic things you as a customer are looking for; Customer Service, this means actually treating the customer nice, Cleaniness; clean and well maintained, and lastly a good product. These three things the Summit Lodge lacks. I'll be hesitant to book a hotel online after this stay. Be careful when looking for a "nice" hotel online, they all arent what they seem to be, maybe even find out how "old" the pictures are. May you all have better luck than my wife and I.
