“What an ideal place for a wedding!”

My son was married this August at the Mansion, his bride grew up "down the road" from it. Family and friends came from all over, Mom & myself from Florida. The giant maple tree makes the perfect backdrop for the ceremony. We all carried our chairs back to the garden tables or inside for dinner and then dancing in the library. Each morning, Jill, the new owner, prepared a delicious breakfast for us, then she proceeded to work all day setting up all the tables, chairs, table cloths, moving the library furniture and making the most useful suggestions - everything went sooooo smooth. Thank you for all that Jill! Keep up the good work, and for the insight into this historic mansion.

“Absolutely Perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 June 2010

What a wonderful experience we had staying at the Sumner Inn with owner Jill. The home is an historic site and Jill has it furnished with all kinds of interesting antiques and art. The first floor bedroom and bath were luxurious AND have easy access to the front door for taking the dogs out. Comfortable beds, great fireplaces, good breakfast every day! I particularly loved the library.

The Inn is easy to get to and close to the Saint Gaudens Museum and home. Great antiquing. I loved it!!

“Quaint and nice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 May 2010

Used to work for the Ron and mary louis and they were great people and gave me a free weddiing there with a band and a great food layout. I worked in the kitchen and mainly did the dishes and helped with desserts and salads and appetisers. They know how to puton a wedding and run a Inn.

“What a great find!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2009

There is a new owner at Sumner Mansion and it makes all the difference in the world! Jill is taking this historic old house and is bringing it back to life with panache. An antique dealer, she has brought her great taste and flair to every room in the house. Who could resist sleeping in a huge canopied bed in the room Lafayette slept in?! The garden is lovely. We couldn't be happier with the attention we got - and the mansion's location - not far from I-91, Woodstock and Dartmouth College.

“Most Amazing Experience w/ a New Owner!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2009

My husband and I just got back from staying at Sumner, and we had the most amazing time with Jill, the new owner. We attended a rehearsal dinner for 75 people, and everything was beautiful and flawless. Staying there was the most comfortable and welcoming experience we could ask for. The rooms are spacious and decorated with amazing antique decor (and the French Room, where we stayed, had a very comfortable bed). The grounds are large, with lots of grass and trees. Jill is so loving and attentive, and being there was just such a relaxing feeling.

Jill specifically mentioned having torn up the floors, which was a specific complaint in another review below, and I thought everything looked really well-decorated and attractive. I know the former owners had a negative reputation, especially in regards to weddings, but everything is beautiful and smooth now, so I would definitely suggest having a wedding or large party there-- and certainly stay there if you have the chance! I think Jill is very capable of turning around the negative reputation around with her warm personality-- it was exactly like staying at my grandmother's house and sitting around talking with her and having fresh blueberries and eggs for breakfast. We could not have been more thrilled with our stay there.
