My now-husband's mother has already written a review on this page, but we felt we had to add our own perspective. We stayed at Sumner for several days, including before and after our wedding. While we booked the Inn based on how beautiful the grounds and building were, we were pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed our room (the "wheelchair accessible" room on the first floor, or the "blue room" as we ended up calling it). Spacious, comfortable, impeccably clean and oh what a BEAUTIFUL bathroom with a gorgeous tub! The bathroom's window light in the morning made even night-owls like us feel happy to be awake. Though we were busy organizing last minute details for the wedding, Jill's homemade breakfast every morning was a wonderful start to the day, with local, fresh ingredients. We met the neighbors and their alpacas, and had a great walk down the front lawn and across the street to Stella's, a diner with local character and delicious food (try the buffalo chicken sandwich!). Hartland is very much a small town, and the locals are friendly and hard working. We are very much looking forward to joining Jill again this August for our first anniversary to stay in "our" room again.
As for the wedding itself-- it was wonderful, and our guests enjoyed themselves immensely. We held the ceremony under the 200+ year old maple tree in the yard, and the reception was in the dining room, library and courtyard garden. The sense of history made decorating simple-- we hardly did a thing! A few flowers and table centerpieces, and the library doubled as a fabulous dance floor with the furniture in small groupings to the side so that guests could watch the fun if they chose not to join in. Jill had all the amenities necessary, with helpful suggestions whenever we had a question.
