“Nice Inn and Family Friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2011

A great family friendly Inn with gracious hosts, Jim and Linda and helpful staff. Stayed the July 4th weekend with daughter and son in law and two young grandchildren. Everything was great. Breakfasts (included in rate) are sumptuous. We ate dinner one night and that was also very good. The young ones (4 and 7) had a ball on the property. The rooms are clean and comfortable. We have stayed at several nice Inns in Dorset and would recommend Barrows especially if traveling with young ones.

“Excellent place.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 June 2011

Incredibly friendly, wonderful innkeepers. The rooms are clean and well kept, service is excellent, and prices are very reasonable compared to other B&Bs in the area. Good food, particularly the included breakfast. This is a place we will stay again when visiting our friends in Dorset. Dorset itself is a lovely town, lovely Vermont scenery, and easily accessed.

“Wonderful room, great food, friendly innkeepers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 February 2011

My wife and I (and dog) just returned from a wonderful long weekend at Barrows House. The Stables, where we stayed, was well appointed, nicely decorated and very comfortable. Our meals were served in a warm and inviting style. Don't miss the rack of lamb, leek tart, and generous desserts. Each evening innkeepers Jim and Linda McGinnis came to our table and inquired about our day, and offered great ideas to add to our stay in Vermont. These two have worked exceptionally hard over the years to keep Barrows House a gem. We will plan on coming again.

“Dirty and overpriced”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2010

We paid significantly more for this inn than at the previous place we stayed and so we expected more. We got less, much less.

The broken screen door was unfortunate, the filthy, stained loveseat was disgusting. We should have left there and then and asked for our deposit back but we persevered.

We got pretty good at killing moths and mosquitoes (their entry aided I'm sure by the broken screen door) and were pretty good sports about it but we didn't feel too sporting when it came to the numerous spider webs (complete with spiders) that we had to clean up.

We had to clean them up because the cleaning staff didn't. Spider webs take awhile to form so there's no excuse for them being there.

Our view out the windows was of a filthy green house or some type of storage area.

The room was quiet which was a plus but the mattress was uncomfortable and the sheets were so pilled that they were rough and also uncomfortable. They're pilled because they're either very cheap or very old. Either way they shouldn't be charging people more than $200 a night to sleep under them.

The breakfast was good but that's the only thing about the experience that was.

I braced myself for the inevitable "ouch" when it came time to pay the inflated bill but the insult to injury was the gratutity charge.

We're generous tippers when it comes to the wait staff and cleaning staff. We understand that many people aren't and that this is why some establishments add a gratuity fee to the bill, but to pay a gratutiy to people who didn't earn their salaries doing what they were supposed to in the first place (which was clean) was appalling.

I sent an e-mail to the innkeeper when we got home and received no response at all which confirms what we already knew. These people care nothing at all about their guests and take no pride in their business.
