“A great deal for a home away from home...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2010

I stayed here while moving my daughter back to the University of Vermont. It was an excellent deal for its wonderful neighborhood. Across the street from the busline, which takes you to UVM and Church St. The house has a beautifully maintained inground pool, which was just lovely to swim in. I enjoyed my hostess, Linda, her dogs, and the coziness of the house and my room. The breakfast was excellent. I would stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a quality and economical stay in Burlington.

“This is NO place like home!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2009

I would not recommend this place to anyone. The innkeeper was far from friendly! There was not a moment that I felt welcomed in her home. The house smells like dog and mildew. Even though I love dogs, I did appreciate her dogs barking all morning long, waking me up early on my only day to sleep in. The room I slept in was the size of a closet and there was not an option to open the windows making me feel totally claustrophobic. Yes, the room and bathroom were clean, but that does not make up for a mediocre breakfast (in a cramped kitchen) and an unfriendly innkeeper. Take my advice, stay in one of the many other B&B options Burlington has to offer.

“A Memorable Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2009

We were on a world trip for four months and stayed at Hartwell House for two nights whilst travelling through New England. We came on the bus and were able to walk there from the bus station. It is a beautiful property and we stayed in the smaller double room. The property is immaculate and furnished with amazing antiques which were very much to our taste. Yes there are two dogs but they are lovely and don't tend to go into the guest areas. Whilst we were there in the midweek there was one other guest there (a different lady on each night) and we enjoyed talking to each one as they were both very nice. We didn't have a problem waiting for the bathroom as there was only that one other guest. Both the bathroom and the room were very clean. The breakfast was top class with a selection of quality, healthy, fresh food at a time to suit you where you are waited on by Linda. Her eggs are great and I mention this as we have had four months of sugary, cheap cereals and toasts etc at the other places we have stayed and were fed up with them! Her breakfast left us full for hours! It's a lovely location but it was around a fourty minute walk for us into town, however it's a pleasant walk and there are local marts and food outlets nearby. Linda is a remarkable lady and an excellent host, she didn't cut any corners and does everything properly. Gave us advice on the area and where to eat. We very much enjoyed our stay with her and she provided us with some very funny tales to tell our friends back home and a stay to remember for sure.

“A great Deal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2009

My boyfriend and I stayed at Hartwell House for one night but I definitely wish that it had been for more. Linda is great and her poached eggs really are the best I've had, which was a surprise. It's very much like you are staying in someone's house and you do share a bathroom but it's fine and everything is super clean. You can spend 2.5 times as much to stay at the sheridan which to me is a total waste of money when you have this lovely little bed and breakfast.

“The Best Value in Burlington”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2009

I enjoyed my stay at Hartwell House. Linda fixed a full breakfast with eggs and was very pleasant. When one is away from home, it's a relief to locate a fairly-priced B&B in wihch to lay one's head. Linda will go to Heaven for her kindness.
