“A personal ambience and a good memory”

We stayed at On the Hill for two nights in October 2010 and we recommend this beautiful bed and breakfast to everyone who likes an accommodation with a personal ambience. First of all, we were very pleased that Kay took her time to join us for breakfast both mornings. We really enjoyed her company, her open mind and her straight forward way of telling us of her life. We went back to Denmark with a personal story that indeed added value to our fantastic trip to New England. Secondly, the rooms were clean and nicely decorated in an individual style with small details that made us feel almost at home.

“Excellent home, and a great host”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2010

I highly recommend this B&B based on two key ingredients: 1) the well-presented and comfortable home (which did feel like home away from home), and 2) the warm, friendly and sincere host, Kay (who goes above and beyond to ensure you feel like you are at home away from home).

I had the opportunity to stay in two different rooms at this house during my stay, both of which I found to be very clean, neatly decorated and homely. The house itself is in a residential area, about a 20-25 minute walk to the central Burlington area.

It was a pleasure to meet with Kay and to stay at this accommodation -- I did not so much feel that I was being 'served' breakfast but that I was in fact sharing breakfast with both her and her guests, such was the warmth and hospitality of this B&B.

“Good value in Burlington”

After finding all of the big name hotels and better known bed & breakfasts/inns booked, I made a reservation for a Saturday night at On the Hill. Kay was a great host. Before we booked, she responded to inquiries by email very promptly. She also allowed us to check in at 11am, instead of the time on the website. The breakfast was also great. Kay was sensitive to the fact that I am a vegetarian. She also asked us what time we would like to have breakfast. We had one incident which Kay quickly remedied. We had a private bathroom, however, it was not connected to our room. The other rooms had a bathroom connected. Although these guest had a private bathroom, and were told that it was their private bathroom, they took it upon themselves to use our bathroom, including our wash clothes, towels, and shower . . . when we informed Kay, she was extremely apologetic and even refunded some of the money - even though we had never brought this up. Everything ran smoothly. I rated the cleaniness a little lower because there were a few spider webs in the bathroom. The b&b is close to town. It is walkable, however, we drove because we were hitting a number of locations outside of Burlington.

“Wonderful B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 June 2009

This small 3-bedroom B&B tucked away off a small quiet lane was perfect for my family of 6 adults. The rooms were cosy and of adequate size, the beds comfortable and each room was peppered with small interesting curios. The Maple and Oak rooms share a bathroom (with a small jacuzzi) and guests in the Elm room have access to the shared bathroom. Most of the furniture is pre-loved and antique, giving the home a lovely cosy feel throughout. The owner was in the midst of installing WiFi during the week of our departure.

Vermont products are used throughout the B&B. Organic bathroom products add a fragrant and soothing touch. Local Vermont-grown produce is served at breakfast. We had fresh fruit, coffee, yogurt, Nutty Steph's granola, jams, croissants, scones, bacon and sausages.

The owner, Kay, is a lovely friendly lady who takes a real interest in her guests and chatted with us over breakfast. She also offered brochures and suggestions on what to do in Burlington and even where to park for free downtown.

Downtown is a short drive away. The University of Vermont and the Burlington Country Club are located within walking distance. Do note that the B&B is located on the one-way portion of South Prospect Street, so you will have to make a turn off S.Prospect as you are coming in, onto Hillcrest and again on Crescent, before coming back to S.Prospect where the B&B is.

We would definitely recommend On The Hill B&B to friends visiting Vermont.
