We spent 2 nights at the Inn at Lovers Lane while taking our son to Middlebury college for his freshman year. We had hoped to stay in Middlebury but all accommodations were booked so we looked further afield. Reviews in Tripadvisor led us to this Inn and we were very glad they did.
The Inn is situated about 8 miles west of Middlebury and it turned out to be an easy "straight shot" drive of no more than 15 minutes to the College. The Inn has 3 rooms upstairs (one room is actually a suite)--all comfortably furnished and impeccably clean. Downstairs were several "common rooms" with very comfortable couches that invited lazing about and reading (which we happily did while sipping coffee before breakfast each morning). There is also a dining room with deck. Both of these areas look out over beautiful gardens that surround the Inn and beyond to the sweeping farmlands of the Lake Champlain valley. A refrigerator in the dining area filled with soft drinks and bottled water (the later also in the rooms) is available at any time to guests.
The breakfasts served were among the best, if not the best, we have ever had at a B&B. (example: yoghurt, fresh fruit, and granola parfait followed by cinnamon swirl french toast garnished with warm fresh peach slices and pecans all accompanied by locally made maple breakfast sausages). None of us, including are normally constantly ravenous teenage son, had any desire to eat until dinner after one of these breakfast feasts.
And last but certainly not least, the owners Pam and John were two of the nicest, warmest and most helpful people one could hope to meet. They were always ready to make a hot drink, provide restaurant recommendations, discuss the history of the area etc.. Thus, what we initially thought of as a "less than optimal" situation when we couldn't book into the town of Middlebury turned out to be our good luck. The Inn at Lovers Lane was a fortunate and wonderful find for us and we certainly plan to return.
