Stayed at Forty Putney on a two-day cross country skiing trip to Vermont, and I'm sure we'll be back.
Like many others who've written reviews for this B&B on Tripadviser, we were impressed with the attention to the small things that make for a very comfortable stay. Without diminishing their importance, we expect congenial hosts; a comfortable room and bed; a decent, well-appointed bathroom; a good breakfast. The small things however, like providing toiletries you might have forgotten, a refrigerator already stocked with soft drinks and a bottle of cold water, a basket of snack foods, a CD clock/radio, robes, a library of DVD's, these are things that say your hosts have been thoughtful about making your stay as comfortable as possible, and that’s what we found.
Forty Putney is within walking distance of Main St. in Brattleboro, a favorite of ours in Vermont. It's a step back into the feel of early 20th century life in a small New England city.
Keep a couple of things in mind. There's a hot tub in its own separate building behind the house. We will try it on our next visit since we forgot to bring bathing suits (that's something we wouldn't expect our hosts to provide, no matter how thoughtful). The second thing is that if you're using a GPS to find Forty Putney the address to use is 192 Putney. A Post Office thing, or something like that.
