Blueberry Hill Inn is lovely - a perfect antidote to the hectic pace of life in NYC. A friend and I spent a winter weekend there and had a great time. The inn is definitely 'away' - surrounded by wooded trails, scenic vistas and the occasional farmhouse.
On our arrival we were treated to fresh snow outdoors and a warm welcome indoors, followed by a chance to explore the rustic old inn, complete with woodstoves, fireplace, a greenhouse, and individually decorated rooms.
Without the intrusion of TV, cellphones or internet, we had time for tea, cookies and conversation by the fire. We went out snowshoeing morning & afternoon, with delicious hot soup to warm us in between. I'd never tried snowshoes before, but despite my inefficient style, I enjoyed the workout and the lovely trails. In the evenings we stuffed ourselves with excellent dinners, courtesy of innkeeper & chef Tony.
The staff - Tony, Kendra, Elena & Dan - was genuine, helpful and friendly. As was Griffin the dog! They were available when needed but didn't hover or intrude.
We certainly recommend the quirky appeal of the inn, but if you can't stay for the weekend, you can still come by the ski/snowshoe center to rent equipment & explore the trails & come in for hot soup. Several people did just that while we were there, along with a young family who came to do some sledding next door.
As beautiful as it was in the cold of winter (10 below on our 2nd morning outing!), the setting must be splendid in other seasons as well. Hope I get a chance to find out.
