“Our new favorite place to stay in Bennington”

Taraden is a lovely B&B, and the owners are lovely people. We booked 2 rooms - the Cottage for me and my husband, and the West Wing for my husband's mother. Both were great. The Cottage is particularly wonderful. It's a huge room in its own building, with comfortable chairs, a little deck, and a great bathroom. The amenities are all great, and the breakfast was fantastic. But the unexpected treat was the setting. The property has a duck pond and horse pasture, and we enjoyed strolling around the property. It's also a short walk to Powers Market and Panagea restaurant.

“Pastoral bliss, heavenly breakfast...Thank you Bob and Nan!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 April 2011

Taraden is a wonderful B & B on an old dairy farm with all the Vermont charm you could ask for: A beautiful old house (with modern comforts), great property and location, duck pond, horses grazing on a hill, a three-course breakfast served by the owners and the full attention of the owners. We were just minutes away from our Bennington College destination and our stay was a sheer delight!

“The Best B&B We Ever Stayed In”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2010

We originally planned to spend two nights in the Taraden in leaf-peeping season but ended up staying for five, it was that good. The rooms are spotlessly clean, immaculately furnished with fantastic ensuites and the beds and bedding are just mind-blowing in terms of quality.
Breakfasts consisted of fresh fruit bowls, home made breads, pancakes, etc., etc. Nan and Bob even made gluten free breads and pancakes for my wife who has a gluten intolerance.
The grounds are superb - the property used to belong to a famous American artist who didn't hold back on the landscaping and on the design of some spectacular barns where he would paint.
The Taraden is also with a two-minute stroll of Park Mccullough House, a 35-room mansion with a fascinating history - tours are free if you're staying at the Taraden. There are three covered bridges nearby for sightseers and if you're into leaf peeping, you can't beat this part of the world. The price is a real bargain too, unbeatable. You won't believe your good fortune if you stay here!

“Perfectly wonderful in Vermont”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2010

Nan and Bob Lowary are such relaxed and solicitous hosts that we felt right at home from the moment we said hello. The grounds are very picturesque, and contain fields, hills, pond, ducks, barns, horses, apple orchard, flowers and greenery in every direction. Many years ago it was a dairy farm, before extensive renovation from past owner, modernist artist Kenneth Nolan.

The B&B is next to the Park-McCullough House (well worth the visit!), and 2 or 3 blocks from the small cluster of buildings and restaurants of North Bennington. Powers Market has good sandwiches, salads and drinks for reasonable prices, for a picnic.

Our suite, the West Wing, had 2 very soothing and sunlit bedrooms, one large and one smaller. The bathroom was spacious, white, and spotless. We slept very well.

The breakfasts were all creative, as well as delicious. Nan and Bob are willing to work with whatever diet issues a guest has. Local cheeses, warmed maple syrup, and homemade apple/raspberry butter all found their way onto the breakfast table.

The family cats and dog are also good natured and mellow, which is the vibe of the entire place. We had a great stay and can recommend this B&B highly.

“An excellent choice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2010

We spent four nights at Taraden in early August and thoroughly enjoyed it. Nan and Bob are wonderful hosts and made us feel very much at home. We stayed in the West Wing, which has one main and one smaller bedroom and a bathroom complete with a deep claw-foot bathtub, separate enclosed shower and all the amenities. Breakfast in the glass-enclosed sunroom affords a pastoral view over a pond and beyond the barns to a hillside where American Cream draft horses graze. The sumptuous breakfast started with an overflowing cup of fresh fruit and might include an omelet, fresh baked cornbread, pancakes with fruit inside, Irish oatmeal, or other selections. It was enough food to last me all day.

Bob and Nan help support the local art scene and while we were there were completing plans for the first North Bennington Plein Air competition to be held September 8-12. Taraden is also next door to the historic Park-McCullogh House, a Victorian mansion that offers tours, and a very nice Mile-Around Woods trail.
