Rooms were a little worn but they were clean and cozy - Good off-season value - Great location. Owner was good source of local lore and patient when we had issues with our charge card. PS There are hair dryers if you ask

We arrived at 9:00pm, tired and hungry. When I asked about staying two nights rather than the three we had reserved, the owner launched into a tirade, calling us names. When we tried to discuss our situation he told us to shut up. After another minute of raging, he then decided that he didn't want us to stay and kicked us out! We were lucky though. We found a great room at the Catamount. The manager was very friendly and helpful, an example of the warm hospitality we received during the remainder of our visit to Bennington.

Have been to Bennington more than a few times, and just love the area. My most recent stay however, got off to an inauspicious start from the moment the crotchety old owner/ desk clerk opened his face hole and let his rudeness spill out. He seemed to take the attitude that he was doing us a great favor to allow us to stay at his dump of a motel. As if it were a chore to ring our money through his register! If only we weren't so tired from our drive, we would have given this rotund, grey permed troll a look at our tail lights. To add injury to insult, we were denied a aaa discount. I tried to present my card and inquire about the discount as he prepared to ring our card through, but he literally "shushed" me and told me to hold on a minute. After he rang the card through, he turned to me and said "now you may speak". My inquiry about the discount was met with a response of "you need to ask about any discounts before the card is rung" I was beside myself. At any rate, do yourself a favor and find someplace more hospitable to stay, such as a wet ditch by the side of the road or perhaps the waiting room of a seedy tattoo parlor.

We stayed at the Kirkside for 3 nights on a recent fishing trip to Vermont. It is centrally located in Bennington and many sites and restaurants are in walking distance. Our room was bright and cheery and very clean. It also had free WiFI access which was a nice plus. The owners are on site and take a personal interest in their guests. They gave us recommendations for wonderful restaurants and local excursions. Some of the local restaurants offer discounts if you are staying at the Kirkside as well! We enjoyed our time in Bennington and will plan to stay at the Kirkside next time we are in the area.
